So my latest pin-up is one of these, and as i sit in a hotel 250 miles from home due to my current car breaking down, i think it is where my money will be going. I drove one recently and it was very very agreeable.

I might stretch to a Portfolio or a 2010 'S' spec facelift (the one with the XFR interior and black grille etc.)

anything i should be mindful of?

thanks

TBH the Portfolio isn't worth the extra money. I'd go for Prem Lux S. Go for the facelift. Jag are advertising 2 years free servicing for all used cars purchased by 5th Feb. Every little helps!

there don't seem to be that many portfs around so it seems the market agrees with you! What do you get, incidentally over and about a PL? Bowers and Wilkins I can see (which I would love to have but the standard 340W sounds very lovely anyway), and greater choice of colours but not sure about other bits. Incidentally so many of these have beige, grey, brown interiors... call me boring but i want black if it is the only alternative!

The B&W also adds in the 6CD, I Pod & USB interface and DAB radio. Other bits are: xenons, tyre pressure monitor, suede roof lining, contrast stitching, figured ebony veener option, 20" Selena alloys, and premium mats.

As a new car in 2010 metallic paint and ivory interior were no cost options. Worth £1,375 against a premium luxury. Reducing the difference to £1,900ish

Hope that helps?

Does it not also get a higher grade of semi aniline leather?

Certainly the difference between an XK 5.0 and an XK 5.0 Portfolio is, to me, very noticeable. The latter feels handmade, the former rather less so. Just imho.

IIRC the "Portilo" also gets heat/cool seats as standard.

You also have the cooled seats in a late 10.5 / 11 model year Premium Luxury "S" when the xfr interior pack became standard.

The only model with the semi aniline leather is the XJ Supersport. XF Premium Luxury and Portfolio both have soft grain perforated leather.

Exactly, touchy feely things, not worth the extra wad. On the used front though I'd go for a Portfolio just for the alloys, but new, I'd go Prem Lux S.

Silver is best colour on these IMHO....

As a new car they now all have DAB, IPod, USB, hard disk drive, 600w stereo and xenons so yeah i would go Premium S too now.

For the new 12MY the S also gets the aero kit, XFR dynamic suspension as standard in addition to the XFR seats and piano black veneer from the 11MY.

Even harder to justify the Portfolio now really.

(didn't stop me selling a new Portfolio S today though...! :-)

Who the F wants Piano Black veneer? Looks like shiny plastic. I hope you can still spec burr walnut.

The "new Jaguar" customers coming over from Audi, Mercedes, BMW like the piano black / shiny plastic..... You can of course choose various wood veneers, including burr walnut

I had a 3.0L XF loan car from a JMD a couple of weeks ago for two days. No burr walnut and no piano black veneer. Instead it had the complete set of aluminium inserts. Might be dazzling when the Sun is up! The interior was a light grey and the exterior was Lunar Grey. I thought this was a fab combination, so much so that I tried really hard to convince SWIMBO to go for it. 6 months old, 4000 miles, every extra, £28000, looked a great deal. She did not agree...we have other priorites etc (she got her new Fiesta a few weeks ago). I stil regret it. Mind you my S Type is a great car as well.

wow, sounds a good deal! Was it a luxury? If so, I would wonder why someone would specify a lot of options rather than simply going a model up?

Yes it was. I really can't recall the model precisely but I think it may have been a Premium S? Does that make sense? I don't think it was a Portfolio.

£28k for a 6 months old Premium S?! If correct you should have snapped his hand off at the elbow!

Totally agree, but wife told me "We have other priorities", and she was probably right.

Surely you don't do everything your wife tells you?

Very true. What erks me is that she got her rather desirable new Fiesta Zetec S a few weeks before (without protest from me), so I have to continue with the 8 year old S-Type V8, which is not really a problem!

that sounds very cheap for a premium luxury with those attributes...
