Took the wife and kids out yesterday and as we were approaching the car park, I could hear a slow knocking sound when on idle in traffic. The radiator fan was on max speed also. Temp gauge was vertical not indicating any problems.

Pulled in and parked, lifted the bonnet and it was boiling over frown It then proceeded to boil all the water in the expansion tank. Quick inspection showed no belt on the water pump. Called the AA. The chap who turned up did his best to source one but no luck so towed us home.

Very annoying because the tensioner seized around a year ago killing the belt and tensioner so I changed both then.

What could have caused this belt to fail? The water pump and tensioner run freely. £38 quid for JUST the belt from Jaguar! :O

I’m pretty concerned what other damage has been done.

£43.20 inc. VAT for the belt... not sure what to say to that. It's the smallest belt I have ever seen on a car.

Pretty sure it would be the same belt as the diesel mondeo. If you can get one from a parts place

Cheers.

Belt came in today, popped over to pick it up and was presented with the long ancillary belt frown

Oh well, correct belt on order and should be there tomorrow. £17 + VAT for the correct belt. More like it.
