bought an R x308 recently and liking it a lot, still debating whether to "upgrade" to a x350? in the meanwhile i have a couple of questions.
1. how easy/safe would it be to fix a cruise control system from another xjr, would it invalidate my insurance, could i trust it?
2. the headrests just go either up or down, there doesnt seem to be notches inbetween ?
any thoughts ta

Are the headrests not electric?

My namesake who runs a company called go-lpg retro fitted a cruise system to an X308 and wrote a article in the JEC magazine a while back. Seems a mighty amount of hassle to me and there's always the risk of frying or breaking something Very Expensive Indeed when "improving" an 308's electrics.

Headrests are infinately adjustable. If you can adjust them manualy or they don't move at all but you can hear the actuating motor running chances are the rack has broken. Remove the panel on the rear of the seat and repair or replace the rack that drives the rest up and down. I'd suggest you disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 mins before doing anything evenly remotely associated with the seat mounted airbags just in case any residual current causes them to actuate whilst you're poking around.

Not sure about the V8, but on the X300 the cruise control was a dealer fit option.
My car didn't have cruise when it left the factory but I had the dealer fit it before I bought the car.
