Good morning my Jaguar fondling friends,

I drive 3,000 miles a month and need a car that will make that less of an effort. I use a 911 at the moment with predicable depreciation silliness. I've had an 03 x308 of which there are many fond memories. This one is the right colour and from a local specialist. It will come with a full 6 month warranty and it's unlimited mileage - this is important of course as 18,000 miles is considerable and it's on A roads and M25 so i'll be making progress.

Is it too overpriced? The dealer isn't cheap but they have a good reputation (just ask a certain porcine ex-Deputy PM). It's immaculate outside and in btw

Will the stereo have an iPod plug in? Forgot to check yesterday when I sat in it.

Erm...that's it I think. It looks stunning and they'll chuck in a proper grille (sp.?) too.

Thank you very much.

ETA Have posted above on Jaguarforums too

I wouldn't bother buying an XJ without the touch screen. And especially at that price.

Completely agree with Stedders, buy one with the touch screen Sat Nav as they are excellent to use.
I would also want to ask the dealer which bits they had to paint as the corrosion is likely to reappear if not done to the highest standard.

Stedman - how is the Volvo?

I hadn't considered the touch screen as a must have. I'll read up on that.

The 6 months warranty's the must have for me but looking around there are others with lower miles for less money - just not in black which *is* a must have for me and I need to buy in the next couple of weeks.

The corrosion wasn't visible yesterday however I'll call them tomorrow and ask if there's any paperwork supporting work done

Thank you

If you find an XJ6 reg BN03 GXG, I happen to know it's a VERY well looked after car wink

It's silver, but worth it.

I bought and X350, but the diesel version and do the same milage that you mentioned.
As long as you buy it from a good dealer (and Arun is) with a warrenty you should be OK. But try and stretch the warrenty cover to 12 months and take note that if you do need some work and its under a general warrenty company, then
A) you wll have to get a quote first,
B) get that approved,
C) then you will have to pay for that work and then submit your credit card slip and invoice (from the garage carrying out the repairs) before
D) you get your money back.
I love the X350, its big and comfortable, handles well and is very quick for it's size. Enjoy.

No You cant plug in your Iphone for the choons, but you can connect (via bluetooth) for the phone function, but Yes buy one with the Nav touch screen, it looks far better inside with.

for around half the price, you could get a Lexus LS430 that should rack up the miles without many (any?) problems...just a thought.....

Excellent stuff and thank you!

Further opinions now too late - deposit down and pick her up on Friday :-)

By the way, do any of you chaps have a sister free this weekend? An errant wifelet perhaps? Just a thought....might take the old girl down to the coast on Satters. The Jaaaag I mean - not your spousal unit.

Well done and good luck. Couple of added pointers, if the battery is original go and buy yourself a new one (from a Jag dealer) as these babies use an awful lot of voltage just to get started and also Low Voltages can bring up spurious problems that aren't really problems.. if you catch my drift... Also join the JEC (Jaguar Enthusiasts Club) the past four or so months they have a X350 editor in the magazine and the information is very interesting, Thirdly buy some McQuires polish as you will want to keep her clean every day... Off to Germany in mine tommorow (move over beemer)

What ho my Jag driving chums…

I’ve had my black 2003 XJ6 for a month now and after 3,000 miles I absolutely love it – to the extent that the plan to use my 911 one day a week for my 140 mile total commute has gone out the windae and I’m in the Jag every day.

Summary:

Superbly comfortable. The most comfortable car I’ve ever been in. Ever.

33mpg if I keep below 85 and 27 if I hoon around. No worries.

The XJR grill is for me a must (£200 from Arun Jag where I purchased the vehicle)

One headlamp unit is still misty however it’s clearing up

It’s fast enough – as expected for a 3.0 V6 really. If it was my only car I’d have bought the XJR but for totally effortless wafting it’s perfect. Actually, an example of how amazing this car is (bit Clarskonesque though):

…two weeks ago I leave Sussex at 0430 to go to an office in Bristol. Leave office at 3pm and in the 911 / bike I’d head for the nearest hotel. Because I have the Jag, I book a hotel in Ross on Wye, head out over the Severn Bridge and then proceed to cover 120 miles all around the Black Hills / South Wales just for the fun of it. THAT’S how good it is!

Love it. Parrot kit being fitted this weekend too as next week I’m going to Le Mans with a couple of chums who’ve ‘decided’ that we’re all going in my Jag. Even got a chauffer’s hat incoming from Amazon!

Happy driving Jaguar types and thank you for all the advice.

PS I did dent the left-rear door in a car park already so that’ll need sorting but it’s A1 perfect otherwise in every single other way. Like new.

Great update! But you should be able to get the mesh grille for a better price, maybe on eBay? (Unless you've already got it?)
