Jag dealers so busy they don't reply to customers?
Discussion
You'd think that an existing customer of a dealer, emailing the salesman to enquire about buying another XF, would elicit even an acknowledgement .. life must be really good for Jag sales people at present ... and yes I know he is still there and at work.
Sorry .. rant .. just hate crap service.
Now to find a dealer that gives a damn ....

Not all jag dealers in my experience... I found a really good one last time round ... That said the one before that would never ring back and a freind who runs a high end chauffeur business was aftter two new XJ's and they wouldn't ring him back so he bought two new Audi A8 LWB instead... Costly mistake or what?
Like everything and every trade, good and bad with all.
My recent contact with Jag was faultless, following a general enquiry on the Jag website, local dealer made contact with me and the follow up was excellent - far better than my experience with some other 'prestige' manufacturers's representatives.
One downside with e-mail is that you can never be 100% sure that the recipient has actually received it, unless you receive an acknowledgement.

In many cases the issue is a serious lack of salespeople.
In order to keep costs down during the recession in some cases they are running one salesperson across multiple marques. Worked for me as they were happy to lend me a car for the weekend as they had no resource for accompanied test drives.

I don't think that is the case at all. Sales persons are paid such a low basic (£18K anyone?) that it costs a large dealership next to nothing to have them about. They are usually forced to sign a waiver over hours worked, and thus are expected to work all bank holidays and now (very often) Boxing Day and New Years Day as well. They get no extra pay for any of this, and thus 'extra wages' do not come into the equation so the dealerships can open 24/7.In order to keep costs down during the recession in some cases they are running one salesperson across multiple marques. Is it any wonder that this industry has the highest staff turnover of any? They were promised £30, £40, £50K a year at the interview!
(I am not in this industry by the way.)

i find that the service guys are really on the ball and get back to me etc. but last time I was in, was asking about swopping my 09 XFR for a new one; they even took my biz card, promised to call about details and then I heard bugger all.
That last bit happened to me (again) earlier this week. 1/2 day off work to go in to show my 59 XF and discuss trade-in. Dropped him a confirmation email that night and then heard bugger all from him since. If one of my sales people behaved that way, I'd fire them on the spot - one advantage of a good CRM system.Experienced saved by a visit to a non-local dealer. Well handled, long test drive, no pressure and good needs analysis without being patronised. Claimed absolutely no deal to be had on sticker price for an ex-demo but then only at the beginning of the negotiation cycle

The best dealership sales staff are on the lowest salaries, many as low as £8k as a basic.
Those that are lazy and therefore less successful always leave to hunt for sites with higher basics as its the only way they can earn any more money.
It has to be said, these are face to face salepeople that have been forced to use computers, they behave much better face to face than on the internet.
Just try to imagine how many 10 year olds are sat at home pressing the "order brochure" button that then creates an email for the dealer, by the 10th one you are fed up with email.
That said I picked up a new car today. Initially I emailed a dealer 3 times, via Autotrader, their website and then direct to the owner - all 3 emails went unanswered and I have bought a car elsewhere. They do need to wake up to this, the one i bought answered my email within 30 minutes and followed it up with a call.

I emailed three dealers when buying my. XK... One emailed me back within 30 mins ... Another within 2 hours and six months later I'm still waiting for the third... who happen to be the closest but also a reputation for never getting back to you. Maybe they are so successful that they don't need to!!!
Needless to say they didn't get my business... the one who got black to me in 30 mins got the business and everything to do with the sales process following that first contact was a joy.
