What a superb looking car - where did you get that one from & can I ask what you paid for it? Been looking around for one to go with my recently acquired 3.0 X-Type.

Is yours supercharged or normally aspirated? Mileage high or low? Sorry to be nosy however got the bug for these big barges now as the Jaguar habit is hard to kick!

Hi fatboy69, Its a supercharged version being the XJR. I bought the car from a specialist jaguar independant near glasgow. Mileage is at 130k which whilst it seems a bit high it has a great service history and is really spot on mechanically. The garage had looked after the car for the last 4 years including a top end engine rebuild, tensioners waterpump head gaskets etc.

If you are considering one of these cars please do your homework as there are serious issues regarding the timing chain tensioners amongst other things. However find a good one and they are superb. very powerful, quick cars. A little time searching this very forum should give you all you need to know.

I have looked at a couple & to be honest the mechanical side of them scares the crap out of me because my knowledge of that side of a car is a big fat zero!

I don't have a friendly mechanic that I can call on so I would be at the mercy of the the dealer - hence my need to join one of the Jaguar clubs although I don't know which one I should join.

I was a member of the J.E.C and will be joining again. My experience of the club has always been very good. The couple of times i've had dealing with the drivers club have left me very dissapointed, however that may be a local thing.

I would suggest finding out who is a good independant in your area and seek their help & advice. If you aren't confident checking one mechanically get an inspection done, it will be well worth the money.

Edit to add i wouldn't go near a main dealer with a car of this age. Again, a good local indy is what you need.

nice motor BD, well done on your new aquisition. Hopefully, up there, youre not too far from the north sea oil fields;)
Fatboy, stop dithering and go get yourself one whilst prices are low,you wont be disappointed. there are plenty of independants around to keep it running and parts are not as scary as you think.

By the way BD if you not getting 15mpg then youre not driving it hard enoughdriving

enjoy

I am looking at the moment - don't know any indy's around here that deal in these cars hence the need to join a club I think.

With regards to fuel consumption I wonder if they are more economical than my X-Type. Currently getting a meagre 17mpg although impressed myself a few weeks ago on a trip back from Devon when I managed to get just 15mpg from it......

SWMBO said that I had attached a brick to the throttle. Told her no, it was just my foot!!!

A good indy is Swallows down in Somerset. Burnham junction of the M5.

They did the transfer box and diff on my X-type. Lots of interesting cars there and they have a few XJs for sale more often than not wink
