Suspension fault warning

I am getting an intermittent suspension fault warning light showing. Sometimes it comes on, other times it doesn't. The handbook states it is an adaptive damping fault.
The intermittent nature would seem to indicate a loose connection but of what? I recently had a front wheel alignment so am wondering if something has been knocked or displaced. Any ideas?
