s type v8 couple of issues any help please
Discussion
my 2000 v8 has developed a couple of niggles occasionaly shows engine failsafe mode on the dash in amber. there is no loss of power, and will reset once the engine is turned off and back on?
next issue is the auto stick will travel down thru park and reverse and select reverse fine into neutral fine but when put into drive it feels like its not physically engaged and the neutral light is on ( as if its still in neutral) this all goes away if I select the 4th 3rd or 2nd change on the gate and then into drive ??? any ideas guys would appreciate it
ps has a bit of exhaust blow from centre of exhaust would this relate to the engine failsafe ???
thanks again all

Cant help with the engine question but the gearbox on my 4.2 S was transfomed when I had the fluids changed in it, if that's not been done it might be a good place to start. Had mine done at about 100,000, Jag MD suggest it is sealed for life, Indy thinks differently and so far, I'll go with the latter opinion!
I'll second the point about changing the gearbox fluid + filter. Well worth doing. That nonsense about 'sealed for life' grinds on me. Yeah 'sealed for life' if you want the life to be 100k or so!!
O/T, but do you know if your timing chain tensioners have been uprated to metal ones? That's another preventative procedure to consider if not done already.
As for the fault code, yes the blown exhaust could cause it I suppose, but it's worth finding someone with a code reader to be sure.
Good luck.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES so far the light hasnt come back on as yet , will plug a reader in tho to see whats in there, i gave the gear shifter a few firm movements thru the gate and things seem to be a lot better, are there switches etc in the j gate ? or adjust ments ? gear changes are nice and kick down works well so hope there no gearbox issues looming will get the oils filters done who is best to do that in west sussex area? will keep updated as and when things change for better or worse

Long shot I know but could it be the sensors on the throttle body failing - warning message does come up but I had wandering performance then limp home mode on mine.
Second hand throttle body unit fixed it all.
Kind regards
Are you the bloke who sold a 4.0 XK8 to a certain Mike Brewer? Second hand throttle body unit fixed it all.
Kind regards
