E60 M5 to XFR?
Discussion
Hi!
Coming to the end of three years in my beloved M5, wondering where to/what next.
I saw a black on black XFR today.....stunning looking thing indeed.
I've always thought of Jags as being for old boys who've given up on life, but as I'm knocking on myself now, it might be time to rethink my views!!
Has anyone on here made the move.....how do they compare?
I popped into a dealership today and had a good look at the Jag range....very impressive.
May organise a test drive [not with this dealer though: I was completely ignored by everyone, including the receptionist....they can't all be like this, can they??!]

Jazzer...I've had an M6 and an XFR previously and the Jag compares very favourably. Performance is very similar, maybe the Jag being the slightly easier car to drive fast due to the smoother 'box and much more torque but not so different that you'd think the performance differential that noticeable.
Where there is a big difference in the Jag's favour is chassis/suspension....it rides so much better with much more tightly controlled body movements. My M6 could feel a bit floaty in comparison to the e92 M3 that I had directly before it (and I assume the M5 is no better than an M6) whereas the XFR feels like a big M3 (but with much lighter steering which can take some getting used to). Very impressive car and only after driving the XKR was I swayed in that direction (a totally different car again but much more 911 than saloon car in feel).
As for the age thing, well I'm 33, have had numerous of the main German brands (BMW, Mercs, Porsche), I'm now on my second Jag this year and I never feel either of them have are like driving an old mans car, either in how it feels or how it looks. The latest range are really quite focussed driving machines (even the non-R's) which I can't imagine appealing to an older person wanting a soft cosseting ride like an old-school XJ6/8! I even had a new XJ diesel as a courtesy car and if I was being honest, probably drove just as good as the XFR! What the Jag's do really very well is ride our roads well....whilst they are firm, the body control, damping and ability to cover our broken undulating surfaces is better than pretty much any factory-spec car that I've driven. In fact, so impressed am I, I've just ordered my 3rd Jag....but being an F-Type, it won't arrive for at least another year
Oh, depending on where you;re based, if you're within reasonable travelling distance the East Midlands then you should try Sturgess Jaguar who are the main dealer in Leicester. They're independent and not part of a big national dealer group and in my experience, they're the best, most personable dealer I've used by some margin from any make. Also, as they're have a very close relationship with the Jaguar factory, their aftersales service and knowledge is quite frankly exceptional.

Jazzer, contact Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton, they are fantastic, the service dept are even better. But like all sales organisations give them a bell before hand and tell them your going down to buy a car, watch the red carpet flow beneath your feet..
Forgot to say they are part of the Sytner Group, owned by Roger Penske, a great group who really look after you... even if you buy used..Jazzer said:

Nah, you've got it quite the wrong way round.Old men don't drive Jags, they can't the damn things are too low down and the knees just won't cope with it anymore.
And once they reach that point they have to switch to BWMs.
This was the theory from my Uncle and a quite a number of his Jag owning friends.
