First time in here

Anyone got any good places to try for the above subject line (or anyone got one in their shed taking up space)

A friend has bought a 4.0 Supercharged engine from an XJR but it originally had an auto on the back of it - he already has a suitable getrag gearbox but is hunting for the bellhousing (s)

I have an engine backplate from an AJ16 engine, it has a crack in it from the crank oil seal but could be repaired (welded) this is for the Getrag 290 box, I think they are interchangeable with the 265 box and will fit the AJ6 engine, drop me a pm if you're interested.

Getrag 290 has the integral bellhousing and is slightly stronger. The 265 is as found on XJ40/XJS usually hanging behind an AJ6.

Neither bellhousings will bolt straight up to the XJR6 engine, as the backplate for the auto box it carries has different bolt spacing. You can fit either a manual backplate to the engine off an AJ16, or a manual backplate from an AJ6. If you go the AJ6 route you have to change the rear crank seal and housing, as its not part of the backplate as on the AJ16 item.

None of this is hard, its all straightforward nuts and bolts stuff. All the bolt spacings for backplate and crank seal are the same. Try a Jaguar breakers like David Kelly in Wrexham for parts.

Adrian - you've met him - he's putting one in a Monza (already has the 265) - easy route to 320 bhp

Indeed I have. I had similar thoughts on Lexus units too.

Anyway, when you gonna come and get all this stuff?

Well, yeah. Is that not what we discussed? (Obviously everything Monza related! you 'ent gitting my Zed, Jag, house, Wife or kids!)

I doubt you'll want the silver shell but it does have a good roof on it. wink

To be honest, I've been thinking recently of just calling a scrappy so if you wan' it, come and geddit! It's yours for the taking.

So that's the blue 3.0S sans sunroof and electric stuff, the flamer's engine, A.N.Other 12v engine, a 24v engine and a van load of other stuff I've got kicking around. Jury's out on the 18" wheels though but I have some wheels to stick on it if I decide to keep 'em.

So you'll need a van and a trailer and about a day to load it all up although I'll try and do the majority of the ground work beforehand.

I'm not travelling so much with work any more so I'm fairly flexible on times and you can kip over here if need be.

I hope he doesn't try too hard to use the standard Jag ECU then, its a pain in the arse to try and make it work. You need all the XJR security modules and the RFID chip from the key from the donor; and to fool it that there's an auto box still there or the ECU tries to go into limp home mode. Emerald/Megasquirt or some form of aftermarket ECU seems to be the way to go.

I'm in the middle of putting XJR6 engine and Getrag 265 into a S1 XJ6.

He's already got his Monza running on megasquirt so he's planning on going that route again as he has all the stuff already

In fact he's introduced himself on your thread on RR and I've been following it since it started (although not had much to say on it as I'm really just an Opel Fruit!!!)

PS Rich - would be good if you two talked as it probably would save you both some headaches if you both are going with Megasquirt

Adrian originally was going to supercharge the std 3.0 CIH but the XJR engine option was discussed a bit and then he found one at a silly cheap price and things have snowballed from there!!!

I was gonna apologise for the threadjack but I started the thread so it can go wherever it wants biggrin

I'll have to pop back over to RR and find your friend then! I reckon we'll see more of these pop up, as the engine is an overlooked jewel in terms of transplants.

I tried building my own Megasquirt and cocked it up beyond all hope; so as soon as the Le Mans Classic is out the way I'll be back on it again. I know one guy that has the engine running on an Emerald ECU, and a couple that have them on Megasquirt so it can be done.

I've just broken an X300, so I might have a play at figuring out what the security signal is off the original ECU... more for amusement than anything else as I don't like the idea that it beat me.

ebay? Here's a 265, top money though. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-XJS-3-6-manual-5s...

A tougher 290 would be better, found on the 4.0L AJ6.

Please can you ask your mate not to rip up any viable manual XJ40 for it's box, thanks. smile

Can you not make assumptions especially when it has been stated in numerous posts that he already has a 265......

OK Pics

XJR engine is going in this

It's a manual - Getrag 265 supplied new by Opel however Opel CIH bell housing doesn't fit XJR Engine

Can you Jag owners also stop bereaking good manual Monza GSE's to steal their lovely 265's wink

Now if it was the other way round and someone wanted bell housings for Getrag 265's to Opel CIH's I has 3 wink was hoping Jag situation would be similar as it seems I'm the only person who has ever broke a bell housing so there are always more bell housings than 265 boxes.......

290 box has integral bell housing and would need a lot of tunnel mods so they are safe in whatever they are fitted to - I doubt the XJR lump will break a 265 - my Monza has done over 225,000 miles and it's still on the original box and it's horribly abused and I'm good at breaking things wink

Hope that's cleared that up biggrin
