I really enjoyed the 35'000 miles I covered in this car but it looks like I will not be covering any more frown

I was on a slip road which joins M4 to M25 last week when the car span round and hit the armco. No one else was involved. Very odd, I've driven it all year round in all conditions and never had anything like it before.

Shame as Gearbox had just been serviced (by Powerbell Jaguar) and engine had the metal tensioners and new chains fitted 35k miles ago.

I have the car at home now and will be breaking it for spares. Still feels like a bad dream......

I'd second diesel (or oil) on the road.

Had a very big moment yesterday in my XJR on a roundabout that had some diesel on it. Was fully on the lockstops with rather more than a "dab of oppo" before the traction control woke up (and I was doing about 20mph!)

Very sorry to hear the news & see your pics - only salvation is that it might be time for a new "project"?

Thanks for the replies.

I don't know if there was diesel on the road or not but I didn't know how to prove it. There were lots or cars travelling along it and I had created some que in no time at all.

I haven't claimed on insurance as no one else was involved and it wouldn't be worth it anyway due to my high excess. SO car is not registered as an Insurance write-off. Non of the airbags deployed either. I suspect the Highways Agency will be claiming to have their armco repaired which will mean my insurance will go up whenever that happens.

The only way I can get any money out of this is to sell the parts as I know it was healthy to do many more miles.

Sorry to here you're problem, thats the sad thing with these cars. They were expensive when new so are expensive to fix. So even minor knocks can be more costly to fix than the "value" of the car.

So, following Chris' selfish note.
Does anyone know whether the wheels are the same as the X300's
The one in the picture looks quite good. What are the rest like? any chance of pictures?
I might be interested in the set of wheels.

The wheels are the same as the X300.

They are in very good condition and have the correct darker grey painted inserts. I keep all my cars clean and polished. The Jaguar's wheels were also polished on a regular basis. This is another pre-crash shot.

The problem is that the N/S front wheel is badly damaged. The spare wheel has a diamond turned finish (like the X300 Sport wheels) but is as new. So there is a set of 4 wheels only that 1 of them has a shiney machined finish and the other 3 are as per the pics of the car. Tyres on Front are Michelin Pilots and cheapo budgets elsewhere. The Front 2 are the only ones I had changed (since owning the car) and plan was to do the Rear 2 at some stage before the next MOT.

I can send more detailed pics later tonight if required.

If still interested give me a ring on 07930 336255 or send me a message.

Regards
Tej

Hello Ken,

These are the pics we talked about

This is the N/S Rear wheel

This is the O/S Rear wheel

This is the O/S Front wheel

This is the spare wheel. As I said it's got a diamond turned finish. It wouldn't let me rotate the pic the right way up

The N/S Front wheel is obviously damaged as can be seen in my first post.

Let me know what you think.

Regards,
Tej

Seeing that Jag all smashed up is terrible.

Glad to hear no one was injured though.

I recall reading what was probably your first topic just around the time I joined PH.

Again a shame to lose such a nice car.

Any thoughts on a replacement, maybe an XJR!

Yeah I was looking at that post I made too. Happier times no doubt. Still gives me a horrible feeling seeing it like this. Sold the wheels over the weekend so some part of it will live on. My daily driver to work is now this which is the cleanest car I have ever owned. Wouldn't take much for it to be a concours contender but I'm happy with it for now. Ride is actually more comfortable than the XJ8.

Shame I made such a loss on the Jaguar but I was bored of it now and did have it up for sale for around £1200 and didn't get even 1 enquiry.

I'm going to keep my Jag for at least another 2 years along side the Firebird. My aim is to save up and one day purchase a good Rolls Royce or Bentley.

Regarding selling these cars I have noticed that in the last couple of years many sit on the autotrader for what seems like forever. I know it's all doom and gloom but you'd think there would be more like minded people out there who would have a pop at one. It's not like you need to keep the car forever.

Before I plumped for my Pontiac Firebird, I thought about an XJS. There are two at a nearby garage, been for sale at the same price now since I think last year. They just ain't shifting.
