Hi Guys

Back in the late 90s I flew out of Birminghsm Airport a lot and I remember there being this fantastic billboard advert for the XJR there which said something like "The XJR. Unfortunately the runway is not available for test drives".

It was such a fantastic advert, but I haven't been able to find a picture of it since.

Do any of you have a pic of it?

Cheers

I used to fly in and out of Brum regularly in the late '90s too, but don't recall the ad' I'm afraid.

What were you doing down there?

I worked in Cornwall Street in the city centre for a service provider for Cable & Wirless. Used to love going out in Birmingham! Hooters was on my walk back from the office to my hotel. It usually got messy from 7pm onwards!! LOL

I know this isn't any help, but your post brought back some fond memories! wink

Ah, happy memories indeed!

I was doing a part time course which involved me going to a hotel in Cheltenham every 6 weeks. Needless to say, they usually ended up being debauched all night sessions!

Have you got your car back? Running ok now?

I saw your post about your suspension. I'm not sure what it is, but maybe give Douglas a shout? He was well up on the obscure bushes on mine.

Aye, I did.

In his defense, he couldn't,(or more likely wouldn't), give me a diagnosis of the chassis troubles over the phone, so what I'll do is get the 'grease monkeys' over the road to have a look at the locating bushes and see if they can find anything rather than hoof it through to PAisley in the first instance.

Yes it's running great now. I had a sinking feeling driving home when the EML lamo came on again and it went into limp home mode, but it turned out the induction hose had popped off the airbox.

So far so good.

Not cheap, but he knows his stuff so I'm not complaining.

Yeah, he actually asked if it'd had any 'work' done on it as he reckons it's one of the quickest ones he's ever driven.

(Dunno if that's because of the dubious suspension though!! LOL)

Other than a top blower pulley, I don't know though.

He's some boy! Mine is running well now too. Just need to get a bit of paintwork done now then it will be 100%.

They are great cars. If only they didn't drink so much fuel!

Aye, well if you buy a car with a force fed 8 cylinder engine that's over twice the capacity of an average car with fuel economy in mind, I'd think you were somewhat deluded!! laugh

Ah, it's worth it. We'll need to catch up when our cars are both finished.

Good stuff.

The XJR is a great bit of kit.

Recently I have been mulling over getting a company car again, and this week I have had a couple on loan for a few days, a Mercedes CLS 320CDI Sport and a BMW 740d M Sport.

Both the Merc and BMW are great to drive, and produce almost miraculous amounts of power vs fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

Both also have some cool gadgets, such as the rear TVs, iDrive and electric blinds in the back of the BMW:

Apart from a few modern toys, and it's woeful fuel consumption, I think the XJR is the better car. Faster, rides better, and, of course, the engine noise.

Conclusion - I'm not going to bother with a company car and I'll keep using my Volvo 850 T5 as a daily driver (which I just love).

I actually quite like the look of that BMW.

The Jag is my company car as I'm self employed.

Took it for a run through to Kirkcaldy today. It's just sublime. Far too easy to go far too fast!! smokin

Just need to get that UJ sorted now. I dn't think I'll need to take it to Paisley for that though, I don't think it's such a bad job and the part's only about £20 but I might get Dougie to get one so's it's the right part though.

Oh, and I think getting the A/C charged may be prudent too. Black car with black leather's a little uncomfortable after a while in the sun!! LOL
