E Type question
Discussion
Sorry if this is churning up old posts but...............
I have been looking for a really nice 6 cylinder E type, requiring little or no work for a while now. Being new to the marque I am unsure about certain aspects. I have seen a car in the ads which looks on the surface of it well worth a view, a 1963 roadster.
Do upgrades enhance the value or detract due to non originality ? i.e.. 5 speed box, and does it matter much if the car is a LHD convert.
What are the essential upgrades to make the car reliable and useable.
I have seen several shiny looking cars at auction recently, but always been concerned about the potential cost of the unknown.
ps If anyone knows of a good roadster (non red!)please let me know. My budget is £50k+.

I'd suggest looking towards the E-type Club and the JEC. I'm a member of the latter, but I'm not suggesting that one is better than the other.. only that I also have an XJR-S, so the JEC was my first port of call.
Non-original cars tend to be worth less in the eyes of the purists, the same rule applying to LHD converts. That said, my 72 V12 2+2 is a LHD converted to RHD, 70,000 miles from new and although a work in progress, is fully road legal and being driven whenever I'm back in the UK. She gets a fair few looks at the petrol station, along with the scruffy 36-year old driving her
The only downside with the V12 is the cost of fuel compared with the 3.8 or 4.2. I don't mind the V12/Series 3 styling, as I intend to remove the shiny bits and have it looking more like a race-replica anyway.
As for useful upgrades, there are probably a few.. including modern headlights, uprated alternator and a decent ciggy lighter for the satnav
Hope you find a decent car, as they're fantastic to drive and amazing to look at!
