I've always fancied an AMG Merc, but the XFR seemed better value overall, so that is the way I went. The latest E63 looks like a great car to live with, but a little soulless. Still might have to scratch the AMG itch at some point though. If only AMG had been brought in to arrange the soundtrack for the XFR...
Enjoy your new car. I would love to drive one in the UK, but I imagine that it is somewhat scarier on narrow UK roads than it is here in the fat old States...

Noticed your post - and I too need to tick the 500bhp box, have done 400 with my E39 M5 and love it. Considering an XFR, or possibly an XKR as I often fly solo..
I'll use as my main business car as I do the M5, just wondered if you get north of 20mpg - that's my tolerence point due to mileage ?

I use the XFR 2 or 3 times a week to drive the 50 odd miles to work and can get 26 MPG out of it. The roads are mainly motorways and given that the traffic is always heavy, I can only ever max 70/75mph. Hence the MPG. The rest of the time, it's around the 16 - 20 MPG mark. I have seen it at less than 10 though :-).
Lovely car, excellent build quality and the 2012 model year has a much improved Nav / infotainment system and interface.
A great all rounder and lots of fun to drive, the kids are often pinned to the rear side windows at every corner and the enemy hates it -which means it must be good!

I have no problem with the build quality - overall that seems pretty good. I would say that the Merc edges it on trim quality however. But the XFR is much comfier. If I was given the choice I would still go for the XFR as the balance of performance/comfort/ride etc is better than the Merc. All highly subjective of course.Quick pic:

You should try the XKR as I seriously believe the level quality is much much higher (although this is excepting my particular previous example who's characteristics don't appear typical of the design, thankfully)....it just seems the most solid of the current Jaguar range. Heck, you lived with a DB9 which in my experience was a bit rattly and buzzy inside (although I appreciate that my experience is limited having had just one passenger ride in one) so any of the current Jag's should be an improvement on that? As we've discussed previously
, trim quality (and maybe gearbox programming) on any of the current Jaguar range may not quite be in the current Mercedes league but it's not a million miles away and the other areas, especially the dynamic qualities, more than makes up for it. Indeed, the gearbox does improve with learning and I only have a problem with it in the 'Sport' setting where, as in all JLR product (including my Range Rover Sport), it just hangs onto the gears too long. The gearbox is however spot-on in normal 'D' or manual mode so I just avoid Sport as much as I did 'C' (Controlled Efficiency?) in my C63!Anyway, Trando....welcome to Jaguar ownership - I presume you notice how much 'tighter' the chassis is compared to our C63, how much less it rolls and how well the body movements are controlled?

Thanks. Yes definitely - it's a completely different drive. The C63 was a stunning car though. I seem to recall that you had a few... (I am an MBClub member as well). You'll have fun in the XKR-S. It's a mental machine...
