I have a strange knocking noise from mostly the front but also slight noise from back of car on occasions, thought it was the brakes as it only happens at low speeds when the car slows and takes off. Had the brakes checked they are ok but the guy didnt know where the noise was or couldnt be bothered finding out.
Anyone any ideas or is it a common thing with these cars.

I'd be checking steering and suspension bushes. These cars can chew them up a bit. ARB bushes are a fave.

I'm sure there'll be other suggestions along too!

I think jith is in your area - whip it round to him for a look, he's pulled plenty of them apart: http://www.jlmotorengineering.co.uk/

Like six said the anti roll bars do go and I have had to do them on mine. Mine made a dreadful knock at town speeds. It sounded like the rear wheels were going to fall off.

The odd thing is, on mine and I think its a common problem generally, is they corrode heavily where the anti-roll bar bush its and this means new ones won't take up the slack entirely. I had to cut a small section out of the split on the new bushes and then put a packer underneath to take up the slack. A bit of a bodge maybe but no more knock.

Definitely sounds like bushes, both my X types have had to have the rear bushes replaced at some point.
The telltale sign low town speed knocking noise. What I never understood, was that from the 2001 launch Jaguar knew that the X was a heavy car AWD model and didn't design better bushes or arms to carry the weight.
MY 2006 late AWD model has suffered the same problem when after 5 years in production you'd have thought Jaguar might have resolved this perennial issue.

In the last year I've replaced front/rear ARB bushes, front/rear Drop Links, rear 'baby' arms and a rear trailing arm bush.

I'm expecting to have a few more to do but each replacement has definitely reduced knockings.
