Just back into Jag ownership!. 'Shopping list' help anyone ?
Discussion
Picked up a rather nice looking and spec'd XJ6 X350 3 litre SE last week. I am blown away with how many gadgets these cars have and how well they drive. I'm also pretty surprised at how much on the car still actually works. It's an early car -2003. However I do have a growing shopping and questions list. Anyone able to shed a bit of light on any of these ?..
- Boot release does not work via any of the controls. Fob, interior or button. Only the key opens the boot. I am hoping its a fuse but cannot work out which one to check. I suspect it's either power or the actuator itself which I assume is common to all 3 elements
- where is best to get a second key ?. I have read that programming the key yourself is reasonably easy, so what about getting the key and all the other bits required to make it work ?.
- wired one this. The drivers side heater does not work. I can programme the climate control and all looks well, but no heat comes out. I tested this when I bought it, but made the mistake of making the temp warm for the passenger and cold for the driver !.
- finally, the rear blind is stuck. It tries to deploy when I press the button, but it stays put!. Any idea.
Re your third point I have the same thing in a 2003 XJR. I researched this and found that the heater matrix silts up over time from the bottom up. Apparently the heat for the driver's side comes from the bottom of the matrix which when silted up doesn't heat up. Passenger side heat comes from the top which will continue to work. I seem to remember flushing the matrix out was a false economy as given the labour required to remove it you might as well fit a new one. I have decided to live with it and knwoing what it is means it doesn't annoy me any more. Its still warmer and more comfortable in there than in any other vehicle.
Rear blind is easy, my 2003 XJ8 had the same problem. Assuming it clicks but doesnt move when you press the button just get your fingers under the top of the blind and pull it up about 2 inches. It takes a bit of force. Have an accomplice press the blind button a few times as you are doing it. Eventually it should free itself up and work ok.
Mine took 3 goes to get it to finally rise up, but now it works fine, I just make sure I use it once every few weeks so it doesnt get stuck again.
Loads of good advice on this forum http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/f32/ helped me fix all the problems on mine.

key fob - Stolen from another forum, I've not tried this so cant comment on accuracy of the instructions, but replies on the forum indicate that it works
hold the headlamps on main beam, set ignition to auxillary flash the lamps 5 times then press a button on the remotes that require proggramming
ETA: I only have 1 key (and the valet key) and havent yet managed to find a replacement. Havent bothered asking a dealer as I am sure they will want £££
