Hi all.

I'm out working in the Emirates, where petrol is so cheap they beg you to take it away!

I'm looking to buy a very good condition, low mileage facelift v12 XJS.

It's sitting there waiting for me.

Can someone sensible talk me out of it.................

But there is a spot of rust on the panel under the windscreen, and on the front bumper chrome.................spin!

(By this age in the uk, my first XJS had mostly returned to its component parts, ie, iron oxidecry)

The dealer also has possibly the only rust free Series 2 XJ6 in captivity.

if there is a every a good time to get a big thirsty car, its while you are in e middle east. dont even think there is any question about it.
you will regret it if you dont.

small bit of rust around the windscreen? who cares? its unlikely to get much worse.

i have been out there a few times on short trips, and its a petrol heads dream.

think it was under 20p/L when i was last there in the UAE. Hummer's, Bentleys and Ferrari's everywhere you look.
what is the current price of fuel.

did a bit of dune bashing in a V8 manual land cruiser. that thing can really shift over those dunes, i tell you.

If there is any rust under the windscreen it will be much worse than it looks. the boys at Clarkes Jag in Sussex showed me the damage it can create as it will go through the scuttle panel and into the window frame. Costing circa 4 grand to fix properly.

I am sure Dan or Dave at Clarkes would take a call from you to clarify..

OK all, as you are rubbish at defending the environment and have failed to make me 'think of the children', my dilema deepens.

On the pro side, the rusty patch in front of the window is about a square centimeter and surface only.

On the con side, said dealer now also has a 97 xk8 with 70000k on the clock.

Any thoughts from those who have tried them back to back?

I will be trying them out later in the week if I can convince the dealer that I want to buy ONE of his cars, not both.

He He!

I did the dirty deed.

I looked over the car offered. After a bit of digging, found it was not a 94 model, bit older. A 'Facelift' 5.3. Not what I wanted, so told the vendor.

A short while later, he calls me to tell me he has another one in stock.

Checked this one out, in dark blue, 6 litre, 43000km, no rust, no dodgy spots near the windscreen chrome (thank you all!), all the leather, wood and electrics in good working order, and with the added bonus of a Kenwood CD multi-changer loaded with no less than SEVEN Japanese sing-a-long cd's.

I've filled up today with the 'good stuff'. Twenty pounds it cost!!!

Happy days!

Nice one, well found,

By the way, is "sing-a-long" Japanese for "Karaoke"???

no photos yet? Tried photobucket?

I have a huge itch for a facelift 6 litre XJS or XJR-S. Its what I;ve said I'd buy on the Pistonheads compeition. With £10k to spend I should get a great one.
