I'm really enjoying my XKR 5.0 but I don't seem to be able to get my iPhone to dock without plugging it in when I want to play music stored on my phone?

The phone docks automatically for the bluetooth when I get in the car but the iPod function doesn't? It's a bit of a faff to plug the phone in with the lead every time. Any way around this?

If your XK works the same way as my XJ... Wait for your phone to connect to the car, then go into the Audio menu, press "My Music", then press the little "+" symbol next to "My Music". You can then choose the source. It may start off by saying "Bluetooth", or it may have already put your phone's name in.

Pre 2012, plugging it in is the only way to dock it for audio. To be fair, BT sound quality is poor in my experience, and the magnificent B&W system would be wasted...

Ah yes it's 2010MY

Oh well I'll just have to keep plugging it in then! I have found that sliding the armrest back means I can then rest the iPhone in the cup holder while it's plugged in. This seems to mean the phone keeps a stronger signal than if I put the phone away under the armrest.

XK's don't have bluetooth audio streaming, even the 13's. They have the old technology, not the new stuff that is on the XJ and XF. Also the B&W in the XK is not the same fantastic 1200W system that is in the XJ.

I would use an ipod for your music, much better and you can use the screen to change album etc.. which you can't do with your iphone.

Seems to work on mine, I use the car's touchscreen to search artists, albums and songs etc on my phone. Perhaps it depends on your iPhone model/software?

Sorry, you're right, if it's plugged in it works like an ipod. You just can't stream it wirelessly on the old system.

I'm off into town to get an iPod anyway. I've managed to leave my phone in the once already so it'll be easier to get an iPod and then not have to worry about the phone.

Not sure which iPod to get. I only really need an iPod shuffle in terms of memory. However, the shuffle doesn't have the standard connector so it won't connect with the cable supplied with the car. Is there a USB cable that will connect to the iPod shuffle and will that dock with my car?
Any advice welcome, the guy in the Apple store was useless so I gave up!

I'd source an old iPod Touch off fleabay. You don't need to run the latest iOS, you don't even need a functional battery. Or a screen, for that matter.

I'm using a gen-1 iPod Touch that I had before I bought my first iPhone. I just leave it in the glovebox, and have a playlist on iTunes. Every time I want to change the songs in the car, I edit the playlist. Every couple of weeks I bring the iPod into the house to resync it.

Or just get a large capacity USB stick, fill that with your music and leave it in the USB slot, leaving the iPod cable free to charge the phone when needed?

Should be much cheaper too.

The iPod cable won't charge an iPhone but the Stick idea seems a good one. Has anyone done this?

Yes. I bought a SanDisk flash drive with 16GB capacity, it is extremely compact and holds a great deal of music.

Here's a link to the product site.....

That's annoying as some of them do charge. You can get connectors which will allow them to charge though. Would need to google it but I have had customers mention it in the past.
