XF, buying guide
Discussion
Hello, looking for advice for my dad. He wishes to trade up from a mk4 mondeo to a early XF.
I know, they share the 2.7 tdv6 from the Disco3 but in a different tune. But know little else of it.
What are the spec's as autotrader shows, luxury, premium, luxury, S, etc. What is the rank of lowest to highest for them.
Looking for leather, heated front screen, heated seats, sat nav etc.
Any major bork issues with them or are they generally good?
I think, myself getting a HSE D3, and my brother getting a 330D has got him to bring his upgrade a bit closer.

I've just bought the XF with that engine, a 58 plate Luxury.
Certainly from what I can tell the Luxury is the lowest spec, but still has leather, nav, bluetooth, electric seats and rear parking sensors. The premium luxury adds a few extra toys, with the portfolio being the top one, that has better leather, different headlining, Bowers and Wilkins stereo the list goes on.
Mine has done almost 120k and the leather still looks new, so I presume any with bad wear will have done mega miles. Still seems like a strong car, and although only had mine a day I love it.
One point to note, is that the key may look orn, the chrome rings may not have much chrome on them, and the face with the actual buttons may be worn - easy fix, cost £7.60 on ebay for new Jaguar parts. Of course you can use that aa a bargaining tool....

OP, from the spec you want, PL or Portfolio is what you're after. PLs also have the higher grade leather but not the suede headlining (or cooled seats). Heated seats plus lumbar adjustment are standard from PL up, the latter I find essential.
I recommend finding one with front & rear parking sensors as you also get a reversing camera which is very handy - the XF is quite a large car
Just do all the usual checks you'd give any other car and you should be fine.

Hehe, funny to see you in these parts Steve (hammerhead) - I see you are an XF man! How our tastes have moved along since the 968 days (even if my user name hasnt!). I have been tooling around in an XFR for the last year-and-a-bit. Superb car, love it to bits. Yours is the obvious UK performance alternative though - no way could I afford to run an R in the old country! Real world, I suspect the performance difference between an R and an S diesel is pretty narrow?
