Hello.
I recently bought a Nikasil XJ8 (am I mad?) it's generally quite good but am now starting to find small things wrong.
The drivers seat electric adjustments all work apart from the height adjuster which seems to tilt the seat sideways rather than lift it up. It's obviously only lifting one side. Had anyone else had/fixed this?
Also the key fob doesn't work well. Am told it's batteries but it'll willingly open the boot, so am wondering if the button is worn out. Tne car only came with one, can I re-programme another one by using the bizzare flashing headlight method?

Thanks for any assistance.

No idea what you'll find wrong with the height adjustment - you'll just have to take the seat base apart and have a look. Disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 mins before you disturb any seat electricial connections otherwise you run a very slight risk of triggering one of the seat airbags.

Remote repair is easy. Failure to work on some functions is usually due to a build up of dirt on the conections under the buttons, usually the lock and unlock as they get used the most. You need to take the remotes apart and prize out the pcb then clean all the connection pads and the underneath of the buttons with solvent cleaner - nail varnish remover will do if you don't have any switch cleaner or IPA. Stick some new batteries in and if you've done this fairly briskly you won't have to reprogramme the remote.

If you do need to reprogramme then here's how:

Hold the headlight flasher back and turn ignition key to position 1.
Flash headlights 4 times.
You should hear a beep from the alarm and the security LED on the J gate will flash confirming the alarm is in programme mode.
Programme each transmitter by pressing either the lock or unlock button.
Tha alarm should beep when you press either button confirming the alarm is reading the transmitter.
You must hear a total of 5 beeps to complete the programming routine, so if you have one transmitter then press either button 5 times, if you have two then press one remote button twice and the other three times and so on.

That's it. Job done.

Ok, key fob batteries replaced and didn't have to flash the headlights or sacrifice any virgins, but it's still intermittent and takes a lot of pressing before opening the car although very slightly better.
I even tried a bit of switch cleaner too. Is my fob knackered? frown, the car only came with one. Would any other one be capable of being re-programmed to the car?

Suspect it may be - all the ones I've cleaned and fitted new batteries in have worked OK after that. None of them have ever had a very impressive range though.

You might be able to buy a new button pad from Jaguar but I'd contact Eurojag or have a look on ebay and buy an identical fob, clean anf fit new batteries and reprogramme.
