Jaguar XJ8 - Engine management Light on but no problems??
Discussion
There may or may not be a on going problem with your car, but obviously somthing has triggered the management light. Suggest you buy a OBD2 scanner and reset the light and at the same time read then clear any other fault codes that are stored.
Loads of perfectly good scanners on ebay for £20 or so. Some will tell you what the fault actually is rather then just displaying a code, but you'll still need to Google Jaguar specific ones if one pops up
Once you've have a scanner then you are in a good position to monitor any future faults and monitor a problem over time, and form a firm diagnosis rather than just throw loads of effort and money at chasing random indications.

XJ40 does not have one
On the X308 it's right at the bottom of the curved lower dashboard on the lefthand side of the drivers footwell - pretty much around where your left foot toes point when using the footrest. It's a black computer socket type thingy, don't know what the right name for it is but that's where you find it.

Hi,
Slightly related, will a standard OBD2 reader work with a W-reg (2000) X308 XJR? Or do I need something more sophisticated? Nothing wrong at present, but you never know and its not like its a simple bit of wiring on these...!
Cheers,
Andrew
It did on my previous 2000 XJ8 - but I have no idea if it was fully functional.Slightly related, will a standard OBD2 reader work with a W-reg (2000) X308 XJR? IIRC petrol engined cars were required to be OBD compliant from 2001 onwards but the X308 range was compliant from launch. Check with whoever you buy the reader from and get them to assure you the one they sell will work on your XJR
