I've just been informed by my neighbour that the roof of my 2003 XKR convertible and another convertible in our secure car park has been slashed to pieces.

My question is, is it worth letting the insurance approved repairer fix the roof or insist that a Jaguar specialist repair it?

Good grief! Words cannot describe what I would do to the person who did that.

To answer your question, damage at that level would be a main dealer for me.

I really hope Karma repays the bds.

I'm gutted TBH at the moment. I'm not back to London until Sunday night.

Luckily I got my brother to move the car to a secure garage.

I've been parking many different cars there over the last 12 years and now at a loss of what to do.

There was another convertible vandalised and also a theft from an estate car, so I know it wasn't personal.

Any suggestions to make a gated car park more secure?

Excess on your insurance ? Should be loads of second hand roofs about ? Did my own swap on an Alfa Spider, whole new roof for £50 more than the cost of the plastic rear window smile A new roof at a dealer will be ££££, probably cheaper and better to get it recovered by a specialist ?
If you use your insurance the premium goes up and you pay the excess.

Make sure it is taken to someone that has changed a roof before. There is a bit of work to fit it to the frame. The last quote from a dealer for a convertible roof was over £2k. They are available from other suppliers at around £400 but that does not include the rear window (the window can be removed from the original roof and placed in the new one. Not sure of the price on the headlining but a dealer can give you an idea.

If you want any info give us a call on 01264 333523

Thanks for the offer I'll try to call you to discuss options.
At £420 for a roof, then additional cost of the lining, rear window etc then labour to fit it's looking increasingly better to take the insurance route.

A quick search on ebay shows a few convertible XK's being salvaged.
May save you quite a bit of money.

Eurojags appear to have two on e-bay at £150 plus £90 delivery each. Removal and fitting additional. Second hand but then the car is a 2003.

That is just awful!

I genuinely cannot understand why people do this sort of thing. What possible benefit is achieved by vandalising a car in this way? The fact that they did another car means that it wasn't targetted retribution, just mindless destruction, so WTF?

It makes me sad frown

How about a few dummy CCTV cameras and a CCTV notice. Won't cost much and might be enough of a deterrent for most.

Looking at EBay it seems these can be bought from America for about £160 plus £40 for del'y. Not sure about lining/window/fitting though

Just an update, this is going through insurance. I spoke to BAS Hoods and they were very helpful. A roof will be approx £400 plus another £400 for the lining then approx £500 to fit it, so makes more sense to me to take the insurance hit and pay my excess.
I'm waiting for estimator's report but have stressed I want like for like replacement so it will be a new Jaguar roof (approx £3000 +vat)

I'll post up pics when I get her back. Anyone know where I can get a hard top cover from?

The only hard top I know of is from Arden. It costs just over 7,000euros but that includes painting in the correct body colour, leather headlining, rear defrost and a stand and cover.

As far as I know there is only one that makes (at least made...) a hardtop for the Jaguar which is Wiesmann, I think Arden resells that one, but am not sure. Have no idea what the current price is, many years back it was around 6000 euros or so, still very high.

Or even better some real ones! You can get a good system for a couple of hundred quid.

OP, I'm gutted for you. I park my convertible on the street, and I worry about some mindless cretin doing something like this. I've already had a door mirror kicked off, and even though it was just £60 to replace I was still furious. Glad it's all getting sorted though.
