XF 3.0 Diesel S Advice
Discussion
Hi!
We had a stolen Merc driven through our garden wall two weeks ago, writing off the much loved car belonging to her indoors. An awful experience and she's really upset.
Anyway, she's been looking at a few cars and really fancied a Golf GTi. She's in the market and has the money, but has been appalled by the service on offer at more than one VW dealer.
Good news though: she drove a 2010 XF 3.0 diesel S today and loved it.
I'm quite pleased about this and think it's a cracking choice.
Is the 2011 version worth the extra money?
I think it looks better for sure.
Any comments / suggestions about these cars would be appreciated, as I'm more of an M- power type.

I'd look at your other-half's journey profile. The XF is excellent, but as most modern diesels, doesn't like too many short journeys (DPF issues will surely follow). I've got a V6D (non-S) and an 85 Mile ciommute means it's perfect. For short journeys, I'd pick the petrol V6 or V8 XF. Incidentally V6D and V6D S is pretty much the same engine, so getting a V6 tuned to "S" level may make sense economically if you do go for the diesel.Any comments / suggestions about these cars would be appreciated, as I'm more of an M- power type.

Best advice I've got is choose your wheel size wisely. Though not hard by German standards, the ride on 20s is on the harder side of firm for a Jaguar. I'm giving some thought to getting a set of 18s or 19s as the roads where I live are pretty terrible so it can feel a bit jiggly at lower speeds. Out on good roads, it's pretty smooth and quiet. Quick enough to keep me interested and good on fuel too.
It's a bit of a leap size-wise from a Golf to an XF - is she used to using a car of that size, she won't be very happy if it's a stuggle to park it all the time.
Another thing that you may or may not consider to be an issue depending on the type or roads immediately around where you live - a colleague of mine has one and says it's utterly undriveable on snow and ice.

Thanks for the comments folks.
An XF would be a departure for her, but she really liked the car/drive etc
The wheel size is an issue.....the ride was awful on 20s on some back roads.
I think it might just be a bit over the top for what she wants/needs, but can hardly complain when I've got another M5 on the way!!

XF is a f*cker to park compared to a Golf. We have both in our car 'family'
Strangely, I find the XF easier to park than my previous Volvo C30 - unless you are referring to the availability of suitable parking spaces.
No problems here either, but the camera helps. Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
