Hi there,
I'm looking at early current shape XKs and would like some more details. A couple of years ago I owned a one owner 6 year old Boxster S and nothing but problems with it. I swore (in more ways than one) that after than I would never run a premium car without a watertight warranty.
Can someone fill me in on the warranty options on a XK of this age? Are there any key mileage points? Can you warranty a privately bought XK? Do they have to of previously serviced my Jaguar? Any info would be really helpful.

Warranties are a waste of time in my opinion especially on an XK as they have proved to be pretty reliable. Better advice would be to do your homework on what to look for and get a good one in the first place. Most issues are wear and tear, read any policy well should you take one out to be sure you are covered especially as I have heard they often only cover labour at up to £60 per hour, not even near main dealer price.
Had my early XKR for 9 years, it's had tyres, suspension , brakes, tensioners etc. none of which I would have expected a warranty to cover. If it had I would still most likely be out of pocket having used less expensive independents

Buy used from a Jag dealer. It will come fully serviced, MOT'd, taxed & 12 months Jag warranty. They will want to look after you and although you are paying for it anyway, you have some cone back, a 30 day exchange policy and mainly good stick at these dealers as they gave to be of a certain level to be sold. There is lots of trash out there at independents, so beware & don't buy the first thing you see, but get a taste for what your budget gets you.
The Jag warranty I believe us now underwritten by a 3rd party, but if you want piece of mind, pay the money and buy an approved used Jag.

I have just aquired a low mileage XK 2006 from a dealer that is not just Jaguar. It only has 32k on the clock and just for peace of mind I took out a warranty with them for just under £400. I now have 15 months warranty. The list it covers is quite comprehensive but so is the list of parts not covered.
It is with AutoGroup which supposedly have a good reputation but the proof will in the pudding.
I have previously taken out a 3 year warranty on a 4 year old Mercedes CLK which wasnt cheap and I never had to use it.
Time will tell if it was good value for money, but what price peace of mind. Until at least I have owned it for a while and gained confidencein it but the feed back on here does suggest that most major parts are reliable. Renewing it in 14 months time will probably not happen as if I need to use the warranty then it would cast doubts over the reliability of the car anyway.
I will use an independent garage for servicing etc , not main dealers for an older car.

It does, that's why I say buy an approved used from a franchised Jag dealer. It costs about £1300 to buy it. I've just forked out £600 on an extended warranty in my Land Rover. I prefer fixed cost motoring, so consider it worthwhile. I got My S-Type 4.2 V8 early 2004, not quite new: it was a demonstrator with 14 miles done (and £11,000 off list price!). I still have it now with near on 120,000 miles covered. Obviously, it came with a warranty, and then after three years I had to decide whether to renew it or not. I decided to go ahead, partly beacuse it was a Jaguar warranty, not something independent. I renewed it each year until I was no longer able to because of their 100,000 miles rule. It cost around £900-£1200 to renew each year. Aside from regular servicing the warranty covered everything that needed replacing, and I never had any dispute with the JMD or Jaguar about anything. I reckon it was financially well worthwhile and gave peace of mind as well.
