Considering a £1000 XJ300 for a 12 mile daily waft to work
Discussion
I've always admired the XJ for what it is and I've never been in a postion to own one. I love what Jags stand for and want to get into the fold and build my way up to something special.
I've just taken a job locally and see it as an oppotunity for purchase my first Jag. I've looked around the net an I see I could pick up a late 90s XJ6 for around the £1k mark. Granted its not going to be a show winner but I'm hoping it may waft me to work on a daily basis and not cost the earth and along the way I can fix the areas which need TLC. I have a family 4x4 which the wife uses on a daily so if it broke it would be a issue I just get the train.
Am I made thinking my small budget will hopefully get a half decent example??

Go for it. You'll get a decent motor for a grand, that's what i paid a few years ago and it never gave me any problems. Shop around and get the best you can, look for rust around arches especially and listen for knocking suspension etc. Engines are very robust and interiors last well, mine was mint with slight wear on the drivers bolster. These cars are in a league of their own and it's easy to be seduced by the first one you drive, but there are always plenty for sale and i've seen good ones with good history for your budget. A 4.0 sovereign has a great spec with all the electrics etc. I had a 3.2 executive with a fairly basic spec, but it was easily the best car i've owned and i would have another tomorrow.
