Jaguar S-Type R - auto handbrake problem

It seems I have a problem with the auto handbrake on the jag. Initially this started last week, with a hand brake alarm noise, telling me there was a fault.

Following my basic analysis, the auto handbrake was not engaging when selecting 'Park' on gearbox, nor was it working when engaging the handbrake button.

I thought this was an electrical gremlin and therefore 'reset' the car using the procedure whereby you turn off/on ignition, press brake pedal 5 times, etc...

This resolved the problem for all of 2 days. It has now come back intermittently.

I'm wondering if someone could advise me how to carry out a full analysis of the handbrake and identify the exact problem. (without going to the dealers)

From my limited internet research, it seems common for the jag handbrake to pack-up.

Didnt know the handbrake came on automatically with "park" but then i have never really checked.

I suspect an electrical problem like this would be silly amounts of hassle compared to just plugging it into a computer.
I paid £40 for a diagnostics check on mine.

Nope - mine definitely doesn't. But it's only a lowly diesel...

Most Independant Jaguar specialists won't charge for a diabnostic check if they do the job for you

The ones i went to didnt do the job for me
