Just got back from Wilton House supercar thingy.

Convoyed across with some South West PHers.

When we were crawling in the queue to go in all the manual cars and automated manual cars were revving and i felt left out!

So, assuming you are doing 5mph or so, can you slip the J gate into N blip the throttle a bit then slip it back into drive? Or will it do harm?

The car has the 6 speed ZF box. 2005 S Type

At he speeds you are talking about, moving into N won't be a problem.

What about higher speeds? 15mph for example?

And is it ok to move the car back into drive again whilst the car is still rolling?

I can't see why not, how is it different from picking a lower ratio then shifting back to D?

If you read your handbook, you will see that it specifically warns you not to coast in an automatic vehicle. I think that it is something to do with the reverse effect in the fluid drive. Doing what Benbow said probably isn't going to be the end of the world, but doing this a lot will knacker the box.

Also the oil pump is driven by the Input shaft, so you need the high engine revs
