Hi
Has anybody got any ideas how I might rectify the following:
I recently renewed the discs and brake pads on the rear of my 2005 JAGUAR X type, since then the brakes have been binding. I have now also changed the rear brake calipers and the problem is still the same if not worse. If the car is not use over night the binding seems to eases off, but then after a short journey testing out the brakes the binding returns.
Please can anybody HELP?

These look identical to the callipers on my Mondeo. They are quite troublesome, especially the handbrake part, this can become stuck or seized. The best thing is to remove the calliper, separate it from the carrier and work the handbrake lever to loosen it. Apply a lubricant to keep it from sticking. Remember to wind the piston back when assembling it, they work on a ratchet system to allow for pad wear. Sounds harder than it is. I have this as part of my routine service now.
Pete.

Pretty much what he said /\

On mine it was the handbrake mechanism causing the problem.

The cables themselves were changed as they corrode and stick.

I also gave the handbrake mechanism on the calipers a good clean. No problems since.

Rather than replace the calipers I took them and the carriers off and cleaned them up good and proper just because they hadn't been done in 10 years.
