Was just wondering if anyone could clear up some confusion that I have over a car for sale in PH classifieds, the car in question is here;

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/j...

The confusion I have is that the seller has called it a Portfolio, yet it has XKR-S badging and is also the wrong colour for a Portfolio, I was under the impression that all Portfolios were black (unless in Switzerland, which were silver). The advert also mentions piano black veneer which was only available in the XKR-S model (i think).

So is it a Portfolio or is it an XKR-S, personally I would prefer the S over the `folio. If its an S I might be tempted at giving this one a try.

For a start it is a standard 4.2 XKR with bling. The Portfolio only relates to the XK.

It has the body kit & wheels from the 4.2 XKR-S, the LED rear lights from the 5.0 XK's, but in actual fact I would say it is a standard 4.2 XKR which came with Alcon brakes at one point & someone has added the 4.2 XKR-S bodykit & alloys & 5.0 rear light clusters.....

Strange car...

Triple7 thanks for that info, you mention the Portfolio only being in the guise of the XK yet Wiki shows that there was also an XKR Porfolio which was produced in 2007, developed by Jaguar Special Vehicle team in colaboration with Alcon the brake people..

Jaguar did a limited edition XKR portfolio in 2007 I know as I ordered one car was celestial black had Alcon breaks and aluminium trim.
Seats could be ivory or black leather.

Only available as a coupe in the uk ,however I have seen for sale a convertible that was imported from Cyprus.

Not to sure on the number of cars produced for the uk market.

If you search on eBay Jaguar XKR portfolio you will still see the brochures available for sale.

In 2008 they launched a limited run of black XKR-S coupes .
Believe there is one for sale on Autotrader now.

I think that's a 4.2 XKR Portfolio, not a 4.2 XKR-S. The R-S had black headlining in the cabin. Neither was available in white as far as I know (not convinced it was ever a factory option on the 4.2 XK/XKR) so there's a good chance it's a respray or a wrap. It has the XKR-S "Vortex" wheels rather than the Portfolio "Cremona" (I think) ones but that doesn't say much.

Give them a call, ask for the reg. number for an HPI check, then check it on the DVLA website and/or AskMID, either of those should tell you what it was registered as.

8bit, Im working overseas at the moment but will be back in the UK in 2 weeks, however I emailed the seller yesterday and am still awaiting a reply as I did actually enquire about its authenticity and lo and behold Ive heard nothing from them, now it looks very suspicious doesnt it. I would go for a good original XKR-S as i believe they would be destined as a future classic.

Only other thing I can think of is that someone ordered an XKR-S and put a special order in for the light coloured headlining. The headlining does look like suede to me, not sure if the Portfolio had suede in that colour but pretty sure the XKR-S had black suede as standard.

Could be wrong but the black trim around the bumpers and skirts looks like it's been added on as an aftermarket item - the Portfolio didn't have that as standard, the XKR-S and one of the other late 4.2 special editions did.

The asking price looks a lot less than I'd expect for an R-S of that age and mileage too, there was a black one of a similar age and a bit more miles for over £32k on Autotrader very recently.

Worth bearing in mind is that there's no difference in the engine really over the regular XKR or any of the special editions, Portfolio and XKR-S included. The R-S had the speed limiter raised but apart from that performance is identical. The R-S was basically an XKR with full black interior including suede headlining, Vortex alloys, the Alcon 6-pot brakes from the Portfolio, the more aggressive body kit and all the options selected.

I bought a regular 08-plate 4.2 XKR recently. I did spend some time thinking should I hold out for a Portfolio or an R-S but decided there wasn't enough difference to justify the extra premium for me. I buy cars to drive and enjoy, not to speculate smile

I dont mind paying for a good car and would want to keep something for a while, i have some spare cash to spend on a car and would want a car to keep for sometime and attempt to keep it in that condition, I understand that it would probably still keep falling before it goes up but im willing to hang on to it. Its not a main car so it wouldn`t get loads of miles put onto it. I totally understand what you say about enjoying the car but as i work overseas it would be enjoyed and driven spiritedly in the times that i came back, i certainly wouldnt lock it away as a garage queen.
