Jaguar S type 2.7d

I'm thinking of getting a high mileage 2.7d for my weekly 250 mile commute.
Is there anything to look out for in these? The reviews on Autotrader look promising, but I'm not sure if these relate to high mileage examples.

whats your idea of high mileage?

Cambelt is 105k or 10 years, fuel pump belt 150k? or 10 years

Budget in a gearbox service if you dont know if its been done (£240+vat from specialist).

check the headlights work as they should if HIDs as the adjusters break (£50 each for reconditioning, or £500 a side for new lights), and the power wash pumps can sieze (MOT fail from 2012)

check water leaks in boot, clonks from suspension.

I'm sure that there is a shed load of other stuff, but just make sure everything works! Warrenty Direct wanted £800 a year for a warrenty, I declined.

I'm 8 weeks into owning a 90k 2005 example and loving it


Edit: 40mpg on a run, 26mpg round town. not significantly more than the v8 4.2 (20 - 34), and you can buy a lot of petrol with the difference in price.

I would move on but cant find anything I like enough that is not in the £20k+ bracket

Thanks for the replies. I'll be looking at 130k plus examples. Something with a Jag ride that's economic really appeals, as I only use the car on the motorway.

mine gives 35 - 40 mpg on a run depending on right foot

I can't get 26mpg around town, but on a flat M-Way at indicated 70mph the computer is saying 42mpg.
Mind you, the revs are only 1,600rpm at that speed.
So glad I went for the STR, if really is a super car.

next time I will get a non-supercharged v8, at 70mph on cruise control it reads 45-48 on level road. the extra insurance/RFL/tyre cost puts me off an R

I hear what you say, but, the extra 100bhp and almost 100lb/ft of torque are well worth it!
