Hi

I used to own an 05 2.7 SE which when you put the mirror selector to centre position, then pushed the mirror direction switch, the mirrors folded inwards.

I missed my S Type, so after mush deliberation I have just purchased an 07 2.7 SE.

The car is immaculate, and everything seems to work 100 % except the mirrors.

I had assumed that as my 05 SE had folding mirrors that this one would too?

Can anyone confirm if all SE's have folding mirrors i.e. mine just aren't working, or is it possible they just aren't fitted, and is so how do I check, ie where is the motor located, in the mirror housing, or in the door.

Car otherwise spotless, so it didn't prevent a deal being struck!

Hi Yes, and to be honest it feels quite 'mechanical', like it is locking into position when you move them in and out, rather than driving a motor back, so I am starting to think they aren't electric, which I find a bit surprising given all the other electric bits the car has.

hi john,
the reason i ask is, that it may have been stickking.
I had an S type 3.0 SE, and got my mirror broken, so i had to replace it
and it took an age to find the right one
there are several different mirrors..rolleyes
folding
auto darkening
heated
memory
and every combination of the above !!!!!
but what i found was the actual mechanism ,which is made of an aluminium alloy, can corrode and seize if it has not been used for a while.
I took mine off and gave it a good spray of WD40 (other brands available )
hope thar helps

Jimmyone,

I have a 4.2 V8 SE. For a long time the driver's side mirror has been reluctant to fold. The JMD I use has made a number of attempts to get it working but it goes back to its old ways after a few days. I'd like to get access to the innards but how do you remove the plastic exterior cover? Is it a matter of levering it off with something suitable or are there pinch points strategically placed and hidden away that if pinched will release the cover? If not, how do you remove the cover?

Hi
The cover of the wing mirror, doesnt give you access to the innards unfortunately.
you have to go though the front, after taking out the actual mirror eek
You can try spraying WD40 in behind the mirror, you cant do any harm as everything is sealed, but its probably, corrosion of the mechanical structure of the mirror thats at fault, as i found out when i did mine
bit of a nightmare job BTW coffee

So I need to get a new tin of WD40!

Is anyone able to confirm that all SE 07 S Types have folding mirrors before I go spraying?

I have glanced quickly down the fuse chart, but can'r see folding mirrors listed, I assume the supply must come from one of the following, but not easy to test the 'heated' part due to dry weather, all the electrical adjustments work fine.

F22 (pasenger compartment) mentions mirrors but not specificall 'folding'

F21 (luggage compartment)heated mirrors, again, mentions mirrors but not specificall 'folding'

F42 (Luggage compartment) Driver / passenger heated door mirrors, again, mentions mirrors but not specificall 'folding'

Will try WD40, but would be nice to know it has the 'option' fitted before I do

John
you said the mirror folds manually
So you cant do any harm anyway,as you will only help the lubrication of the moving parts !

just remembered...
there is a part number underneath (on the bottom )of the mirror,
and that might help you if you go on the Jag forum and try for help there

I think you can send your VIN to jaguar and they will send you the full spec/options list back...
