1966 (?) E-type 4.2 - GNE 1E

[Just found it was a 1967 car]
My stepfather used to own an E-type with the reg plate GNE 1E. In the late 1970's he had to get rid of it (regretfully as I had not had chance to drive it by then!!) and I have always wondered what happened to it. Just wondering if anyone knows anything.

We lived in Willaston, near Crewe, Cheshire at the time the car was sold.
All I have found so far is that the plate now seems to be assigned to a Merc estate.
