Collecting xk8 coupe today
Discussion
Hi to all you knowlegible Jag types. This morning I'm about to re-join the fold with a 2002 coupe, a model about which I know virtually nothing so I'll be picking your brains for a time, please be gentle with me.
I ran an old 3.6 xj-s coupe followed by a x308 xjr a few years back and although they both each developed an expensive problem (gearbox fail + overheating respectively) I'm still willing to throw the dice again this time round such is my fondness for the marque.
Due to a cockup courtesy of my insurer I've been forced to rush into a car purchase in order to keep my NCD valid, a boring story I'll spare you from, suffice it to say I've spent a lot of precious spare time trawling tinternet for the next interesting wheels, not really knowing what I'm aiming at. Last weekend with crossed fingers I travelled daahn to Laahndon to view an xj-s 3.6 manual coupe with supposedly 37k on the clock and excellent order (£5.8k), to find a horrible pile of painted decay waiting for me on arrival. As is my way, I was far too civil and polite to that dealer and left with heavy heart as I'd been banking on that purchase.
Cut to this w/e and after giving up on the usual classic car websites I went over to Auto Trader to see what little gems they offered up. With my previous Jag experiences in mind I looked for low mileage cars and decided on a £10k budget. I found this 2002 black coupe with just 47.5k miles in 'comfort' spec and went for it. I viewed it late yesterday about 40 miles away in the poor light and drizzle of a busy residential street, far from ideal I know but faulting the car was difficult. As the private vendor is in a hurry to offload I managed to knock off 500 from the £8k asking price due to a few upcoming tasks I'd found. I have my fingers crossed for the near future with this beast and I'll post up some pics for your thoughts.
Sorry for the ramble.
