A friend is looking to buy a 2003 XK8 XKR convertible.

What are the key points to check on the car, and how should one go about the checks?

Are there any known common faults to be on the lookout for?

Rust can be an issue on the inner wings, but I'm sure NormanD will be along shortly with the whole list. He's the resident expert.

Rust on floor-pans where factory transit plates are located - under front foot-wells I believe. Also rear arches go.

Also allong the where the transmission tunnel joins the floor pan

Another major problem is behind the front susspention turrets, a job to see untill you drop the ally cross member

If he's looking at an XKR then I'd recommend the post 2003 models that have the 4.2l V8 and the 6 speed box. Most of any previous issues were sorted then.
