Having left the car for a while on the drive, I found the battery flat - No surprise. Battery in boot. Boot electronic. Mmmm Consult handbook. Mmm Nowt. Consult PH:

On the fusebox in the bonnet there is a teminal with a rubber cap on it. I don't suppose its a remote +ve I can jump start from?

Any tips on getting the boot open?

Yes , there should be a terminal under the bonnet. There is also a key hole on the RHS in the XK8 badge. Makes sense to keep it working wink

The keyhole has to be the easy option!

OK. Key in boot lock - found info in handbook eventually telling me to turn it 90 deg clockwise...

Siezed. WD applied. Still no joy in turning. Danger of key breaking.

Where are the terminals in the bonnet to power up enough to unlock the boot?

Give the boot lid a jiggle whilst trying the key - that might give the mechanism enough persuasion to work. I had to do that last week. (Took me forever and a lot of googling to find the damn keyhole too)

you can charge the battery from My Ctek charger via plugging it into the cigarette lighter
can you rig up a plug to charge yours this way?

Jump start it using the terminals under the bonnet & then it'll charge while you walk round & open the boot. Just remember to leave the door OPEN when you connect the jump leads, it's not unknown for central locking to lock at that point & the comedy value will be lost on you if it happens with the keys in the car.

Scotty, you might want to have a look at this pic. AGFAIK it's not advised to jump start the car from the terminals in the engine bay as it could cause damage to ECU. They are there to enable you to open the boot and use ignition power etc. Connect power to them to enable you to open the boot then follow procedure below.

OK, just had to top my 98 XKR up with water. The terminal on mine is UK nearside on the side of the fuse box with a little cap on it.

Maybe I should reread my manual just in case.

On page 6-20 "Roadside Emergency" there is picture of fusebox "A" under the bonnet. On the bottom right of the coloured illustration there is a terminal under a rubber cap, which I thought might be, and you seem to be referring to... I think thats the one!

I'll take the advice and just use that to get 12V to open the boot rather than jump from there.

Why don't they just bloody tell you in the manual!

Terminal under bonnet worked. Up and running. Went for a shakedown run and all seems OK.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Now for the locking nuts that are stuck on the rear wheel...
