Intermittent gearbox fault message
Discussion
Gearbox oil and filter change is a good place to start. You need Mobil/Esso LT71141 oil not conventional Dexron 3 and have to follow the final fill procedure carefully and quickly to get the level exactly right. If you only have occasional fault messages that may be all you need to do.
If that doesn't work then buy a £20 code reader and Google any Jaguar specific codes you have stored. If you can't identify any codes you find post it on here and Ill check my list and see if I can tell you what it means. You may have a solenoid valve occasionally sticking or a faulty electrical connector or the rotary switch on the box may not be aligned correctly for example.
Oil change first - I've posted a procedure for doing this on another thread in this forum, but can't remember which one ATM, and then go from there.

I think you'll struggle to get Jaguar gearbox-specific codes with a £20 code reader.
Not a problem with the cheap one I have. It'll read Generic and manufacturer specific ones The biggest difficulty is finding what they mean, but someone on the Jaguar forum has posted a list of every single X308 one. Have posted that on here before but PM me if you'd like a copy.Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
