I had the front end of the S-Type rebushed and have just had the full alignment reset on a Hunter rig. What a transformation!

It's surprising how you don't notice things which deteriorate gradually until they are fixed.

Big shout for ETB, Stratford-on-Avon for the alignment work - it's great to find people who are nice to deal with and really know their stuff. Well done, guys!

I've been thinking of something similar. What bushes did you have replaced?

Simplistically, one big one and two smaller ones on each side - lower arms only, top bushes were fine as they do very little. Difficult to explain without the diagram.

It's the biggest bush which fails first and causes the major change in handling. Mine was wandering between ruts on the motorway as the bushes flexed; I grew accustomed to it and compensated. Once it was fixed, it suddenly just went in a straight line once again. And hopefully it has stopped devouring front tyres...

Part of the problem was that (as the service history shows) the previous owner had had the tracking reset with slightly soft bushes; this had corrected the toe-out which it had developed, but when I rebushed it, it showed up as significant toe-in as the wheels were pushed forward to their correct position. Large amounts of toe-in on a RWD car does not make for happy turn-in and handling!

Secondary problem was that, following diff failure, the rear end was stripped and rebuilt three times when I first got it. No notice was (apparently) taken of the position of the eccentric bushes on the wishbones, so the rear suspension was at all angles. Toe and camber were wildly out on both sides, which explains why it had rear steer under max acceleration. I thought it was typical for the car, having found an identical trait on another car I test-drove before I bought this one.

Parts came from http://www.justjagsuk.com/index.php - great bunch to deal with.
