Hi all, I am hoping someone may be able to help, or point me in the right direction.
Its has been my dads automotive dream to drive an E-Type Jaguar for as long as I can remember. Sadly up to now this is an unrealised dream, and may possibly remain so. His health is unfortunately failing him, so I am wanting to make this dream come true for him. Some of the things he's wanted to do we have done, but this is up there at the top.

If anyone can help / point me in the right direction so that I make this possible for him then I would be greatly appreciative. I know I could go hire one out for a weekend for him, but he doesnt need nor want that, he just wants a go in one!

Thanks.

You say you don't want that?

What other choice have you got? Other that you, yes you, go out and buy one.

Go on, put your hand in your pocket, your dad will love it! smile

Thanks for the link. 24 hours is wasted on him hence why I want to avoid this route as well. If its the only choice I am going to have then it may be that I have to do it. I'll just have to do without food for a few months hehe

So it is about money then? Shame!

Not particularly, and given how you do not know my own circumstances it is a little unfair to cast aspersions. My reference to going without food was a mere joke. I will however have to save up to pay for this for my dad.

I doubt it was meant like that. Having the car for a day can't be a bad thing if the cost can be met. You could spend the rest of the time in it yourself smile

My wife hired me an E-Type series 2 2+2 for my 25th birthday in secret. I loved it and spent the whole day wasting petrol taking friends out for short runs in it. I recall a pedestrian giving a wave and mouthing 'sorry' at me when I stopped at a zebra crossing for him. The feel-good factor and good-will I got from other traffic was a revelation for me. smile

Perhaps, my mood isn't the best after a particularly st day at work. I will likely go for the 24 hours for him, I just need to re jiggle a few things first to enable me to be able to pay for it. It never was about money, but considering his health, he would likely not be able to drive it for more than 2 hours. I've never had a desire to go in an e-type, should I hand in my ph pass?

No, but I'm not very PH either these days given that I like big engines and RWD - something deeply unfashionable amongst those who populate the General Gassing section.

If nothing else, you could have a short drive of it and then slate it from a position of experience. It's an old car and drives like an old car. It's full of character though.

That is a key point, it's far from unusual for someone to try a classic and come away really disappointed because it's not like a modern car.

A few years ago in the local pub, talking to one of the regulars knowing I was into jaguars asked if I would put a few miles as a shake down with his V12 E-Type he had just got back from a full nut and bolt rebuild

He couldn't as he was without his licence for a few months

I told him I was off to LeMans the next morning for the 24 Hour race

He said 'That's great, pick the car up first thing'

249 pounds for a day seems very reasonable. How little were you expecting to pay?
