Jaguar XJS Gearbox Linkage and Mount
Discussion
I have just bought a 3.6 manual XJS and have a few questions for you all
The gearbox feels to have a very long throw and can be a bit strange going into gear. It also has a lot of slack so I think the linkage is probably on its way out and maybe needs some new bushes / joints to tighten it all up again. Looking online it seems that the gearbox mount needs to be removed and the linkage assembly can be taken off from there, does this sound right?
Also where can the linkage parts be bought from, I am struggling to find anything online?
This takes me on to my next question. When I am driving along, the gear lever gently bobs up and down with the undulations in the road. Is this just because the mount is basically a big spring to separate it from the body of does this mean the mount could do with replacing as well?
Thanks in advance, I love the car and as I am starting to learn its quirks and issues and am trying to get it as good as it can be
