Grateful to hear if anyone owns one of these and how they have found it. Are maintenance costs ridiculous? What would one pay for a 2007 4.2 with around 40,000miles?

I must confess a bias because I bought one recently.

I think it's fantastic - does exactly what I want. Feels like an occasion to drive it, makes a terrific noise, fast as I need, I love the way it "feels" to drive. I'm a realist - most of my driving is on roads too clogged with traffic etc to make fully exploiting the car's dynamics possible. Therefore comfort & real world usability are important for me as well. It scores especially well here - it feels special pottering on the m-way at 80 with cruise control on.

I have not had to do any maintenance yet, but I can't imagine it will be cheap.......but depreciation's usually the biggest cost, so IF you can get over that, maintenance relatively painless.

With a car like this it's almost totally subjective - if you like the looks, the idea of a lovely V8, and something with more dimensions to it than a pure sports car, you may well have found your perfect car. If you want something to drive at 9/10 everywhere, I'd suggest looking at something more focused.

Happy hunting.

That's really helpful - thanks! Did you buy a 2007 model? What are the issues to look for when considering a used XK?

Hi I have had my 2006 convertible with now 37k for 16 months. No issues at all so far. £430 for a 60 k service with Mot.

These cars may be aluminium but they do have corrosion issues. Rear boot just above the chrome Jaguar trim.
Also look at the front edge of the doors low down. They can corrode here due to untouched up stone chips.

Also the normal wheel arches again due to un repaired stone chips.

Otherwise utterly brilliant , not an out and out sports car but a great GT. With lots of power and presence. A joy to own and drive

Sorry, been away and a bit tardy replying. I bought a fairly new one so didn't do too much checking into gremlins etc. As one of the other posters said, be picky. I saw some rubbish being sold as "nearly new" by a local main dealer, and ended up going to the other end of the country to get mine. Worth it though, haven't seen another like it. Assuming it looks well looked after, has the right paperwork, and seems to drive OK, I put a lot of store (rightly or wrongly) in judging the person selling the car.

No real issues- a couple of sensor problems and air con leak all sorted on warranty-fitted spires front half of exhaust which greatly enhances exhaust sound withour spoiling refinement(pull fuse 19 if you really want to)
No intention of changing this car(owned from 2010) as really nothing better available for money

I echo the above, I drive a 4.2 XKR convertible which I'll change soon, test drove a couple of 911's last week and yes they're quicker around corners and I appreciate they're sports cars rather than GT's like the XKR but absolutely no sense of occasion at all, got back in the Jaguar and thought other than a DBS at £80k I'm struggling to see what else is out there. It's one of the few cars I've owned that I lock, walk away from and always glance back at to admire the lines.
