There have been the cabriolet and convertible models...but has anyone ever heard of changing a coupe XJS to one with a glass panoramic roof? Mine needs a new headliner, but I got to thinking of alternatives.

Do you mean changing the shape of the roof entirely? Or fitting it with a large sunroof?

Not with an XJS but Harry Metcalfe’s Espada has had a panoramic glass (Perspex) roof fitted and the result seems like an improvement.

I guess you'd have to find a panoramic roof from another maker that had the right curvature. That and the work needed to fit it would be horribly expensive and you might compromise the strength of the car too.

That was what gave me the idea. Mr Metcalfe seems to have a bottomless budget, which I don't - and I had heard of some Lotuses being compromised with ill-considered sunroofs. Simply thinking out loud to see if it had ever been done.

Well, I never knew that! Entirely possible for anyone to do it I guess, but getting the right curvature might be a pain, and for me that roof doesn't really follow the shape of the car very well.

Remember seeing a "Pimp My Ride" where they fitted a Fixed pan roof on to some yank tank. company spent ages getting the curvature of the Perspex correct, so its entirely feasible, I would've thought though a new roof lining or Webasto fabric roof would be much simpler and easier.
