Considering a P450 or V6S early next year after many years owning a Porsche. No need to discuss the merits of the cars as have driven them all am just interested in the situation with regard to warranty having never owned a Jag before.

With Porsche there is a manufacturer standard gold standard official warranty product that can be renewed up to 15 years old or 125k miles as long as you have it serviced at an official main dealer- this usually pays out for most stuff as bourne out by personal experience and many other forum posts. They also have an assistance cover that will recover, both warranty and recovery are valid across Europe and the UK.

Last time I test drove an F type the dealer tried to push their own dealer warranty product not an official Jaguar one, and only valid at that particular franchise, i.e. not nationwide or across Europe. How does the official Jag warranty work- presumably you can extend the 12 months included if an approved used purchase? With Porsche you can buy up to three years which is usually good value IMO.

Many thanks for all and any insight.

Avoid the dealer warranty and push for the official Jaguar one. It’s pretty good and paid out about £20K in work on my last Jag in various claims. The dealer one will probably come with a stupid-low per-claim limit.

+1 for the official Jaguar approved-used warranty. I had a 4.2 XKR for a few years, bought on the AUC scheme and the warranty was brilliant, just dealt direct with the dealer (any main dealer is fine) and sorted it all out. It was just one year back then but I gather you get two years now, unless that changed again.

you want the jaguar one, both may well be backed by the same warranty company as I discovered when the f-type I bought with an agreed 2 year jaguar extended warranty turned into 1 year and then the dealer’s own warranty… same company underwrite both, but it is only if you have the official jaguar one that you can keep extending it… and it is worth having - loads of work done inc. a new rear diff with zero hassle and lots of courtesy cars!

Based on my son's F Type Ownership experience you MUST have the official Jag warranty, it's been very good

After £20k of claims are you surprised!

I had a similar experience with an Alfa many moons ago.
