Hello all

Looking for the next family bus, and really a lot of things fit the job description.

I keep getting drawn to the value proposition of a lightly used I-pace

I’m aware the earlier cars have a number of gremlins, so would be looking at 2021 or later.
I currently own a lotus and a 15 year old Alfa, so we’re used to rolling the dice - but is there a “bluffers guide to the I-pace” I should read before looking at some?

Cheers muchly in advance

I bought one almost 2 year ago as part of the run out when they were clearing stock

The interior feels like a proper modern jag with all the key controls as physical controls rather then there just being a massive iPad as the only display.

Driving them is a nice experience, yes there are more efficient and faster charging more modern cars, but it's a nice place to sit, comfortable and relaxing on the cruise and quite good fun when you want to throw it about.

I've only every charged it from home, it was bought as a town car but we use it more and more, unless the journey is more then 2 hours I prefer it to the xj

I bought it instead on a Volvo EX30 and am so glad I did.

I haven't had a problem, you can add things that it wasn't specced with or switch of feature (I've used a place call LR chips who were great) added the auto dim on the passenger side mirror (which they miss out which is weird considering the rear view and drivers side dim) plus a few other bits.

it's surprisingly wide, even wider than the xj which was a surprise and wider than an f-pace

if you get the version with privi pro it;s good to use, I suspect they kept them on partly as development for the electric Range Rover

The only downside is it has in combination with the xj undermined my man maths as to why I need to buy s Range Rover, otherwise it;s been fabulous

Thanks for the insight.

I understand that privi pro is an updated ui?

I took delivering of a 2021 HSE 2 weeks ago and cant stop grinning.

The level of trim, privi-pro, quality of drive, the performance, are all miles ahead of what else is on the market for the price. It feel like a brand new car and has 50k miles on it.

If you accept the slowish charge rate (I never need rapid charge) and get a good warranty and all recalls are done, then what is the issue??

I'm looking to move to an EV in the next few months and, despite its known issues, the ipace is a car I keep coming back to. Neither the modest range nor the relatively slow charging time would be a problem for me and, providing you come new enough (2022 or later) and check recalls have been done, I think around £25k potentially gets you a relative bargain.

That said I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to run one without a decent warranty and from what I've read that really means the proper Jaguar warranty to ensure you're covered properly - the likes of RAC warranties won't cover you if you have an issue that's down to a design problem (e.g. the pipes to the air conditioning unit) and that can still leave you nursing a sizeable bill if you're not careful.

And just on the air suspension, from what I understand those units don't last much more than 70k miles and are then likely to need replacing at a cost of around £1k per corner. That will be wear and tear - and therefore not a warranty item - so it's just something to factor in if you're thinking about a car that's got air suspension fitted. Personally I think I'd be more inclined to lean towards passive suspension and 20" wheels - still offers a good combination of handling/ride but without the potential of a hefty bill as the car gets older!

Possibly everything that needs fix has been fixed. On the other hand it a jaguar and they don’t make them any more. Part could be hard to source and fixing expensive. Unless you’re a good DIYer. Maybe look elsewhere.

I say that with a heavy hart as love jags and I think the I-pace was spec wise it was a great car.

I bought a 2022 HSE Black in Firenze red two months ago. Very low mileage and I load under £20k for it. It’s a wonderful car to drive and a great place to be when driving. Surprisingly fast, it feels faster than the stats, handles superbly and looks great.

However, it broke. All fixed under extended warranty, but the cost was eye watering. Even the initial investigation before the warranty could be guaranteed to cover it was well over £1000. It’s fixed now, but has spent nearly a month on a ship trundling to its new home.

Do your research. You’re better with a 2022 or later model and you must have the extended Jaguar warranty. It’s not cheap, but it’s well worth it. Pay the extra for recovery cover and zero excess too. I started a thread on it a while ago and there’s some very good info in there from some knowledgeable PHers

Was that from a main dealer? As it had the Jaguar extended warranty I assume it was but if so that's a fantastic deal - not seen any 2022 low mileage HSE's from main dealers at under £20k!

No. Private sale, but I made sure the warranty was in place and transferable. That isn’t very easy to do, as the warranty company that has white labelled their product as Jaguar aren’t the easiest to deal with. The Jaguar dealers appear to find them easier to deal with, as the repair was covered with no issue.

There was a bit of hard bargaining from both sides, a couple of times I walked away. I was lucky that owner needed to sell though as their new car had already arrived, so they needed this one off their drive. There are some astonishing deals to be had, although it requires a bit of effort and some luck.

Ah, that makes sense!

For the reasons you've given I'd also want the Jaguar warranty and there are several 2022/23 HSE's with low mileage in the dealer network at the moment. The prices are a good 10% higher than from an independent dealer but I think Jaguar are running an offer for a 24 month warranty at the moment - albeit with finance strings attached - which offsets that somewhat.

If I found a car I really liked at an independent I think I'd say to them I wanted it inspecting by Jaguar to ensure it would be accepted for the Jaguar warranty - the independent to pay for the inspection cost plus any associated work required and me to pay for the warranty once the car had been accepted. That way I'd still have a car with the protection I'd want albeit I probably wouldn't have saved much over buying from a main dealer!

I’d say go and drive one. You’ll realise what a great car it is. Admittedly, it’s perfect for my needs, especially as unlike 99% of the ICE buying public I don’t need to be able to drive 800 miles without stopping to work and back every day wink

The warranty is just part of the negotiation and if you have to pay a little more in purchase for the extra peace of mind from a main dealer then I’d say it’s worth it.

I can see the ipace isn't a great choice for anyone who does long distances frequently - the indifferent range means you'll probably have to use the public charging infrastructure quite regularly and as well as being relatively expensive that could also be irritating given the ipace doesn't charge especially quickly either. But, like you, that's not an issue for me - I'll be able to charge at home and given my mileage profile will seldom need to do anything else.

And you're right, the warranty is all part of negotiating a deal as is something like having a wall box installed - but first we need to have a test drive to establish if it's the right car for us!

Take one out and nail it. You’ll love the power and especially the handling.

Found one at a JLR dealer Asked how long was the extended warranty for if I purchaseWhat the cumulative miles per K/HR if availableWhat tread was left on the tyres (22 inch so not cheap and 26k miles prob due for a change)24 car HSE air suspension ....2k more miles than a 23 plate one and £5k more expensive First response was them asking me to call them to discuss the car.I asked if they could respond to the 3 questions on my email as the answers given will decide my next stepsGot a response from a manager saying first guy was busy and could I call him.Asked if he could respond to my three questions .Told him the failure to even acknowledge my questions on the car did not auger well.Prefer to get as much of my questions answered in writing as possible.Normally it's a simple process

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but your style of writing comes across a bit like a brain dump and gives an impression that you would be difficult to deal with in person. They might be filtering you out for that reason.

Again, please don’t take it personally, it’s an observation as to how I read your post.

Take the finance to get the 24m warranty, then just withdraw in the cooling off period.
