Can anyone recommend an outfit which offers upgrades to XJRSs. A mate of mine has just bought a tired one which we are taking for a trip to Italy and over the Alps next year. I am based in Sussex. Any ideas gratefully received.

I have never heard of any company selling upgrades for the XJRS - Jaguar simply did´nt manufacture enough of them to justify development of OEM´s. But why do you want upgrades. If the car is tired then handing it over to somebody like David Marks (www.Davidmarksgarages.co.uk) for a thorough service would probably cure any problems. He has an excellent reputation as one of the technical experts for the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club.

Thanks. I will have a look. By upgrades I am thinking of perhaps better brakes, manual gearbox etc, along the same lines as JD Classics but on a much more restricted budget. Also this particular example has some nasty looking after market wheels so we will try to find an original set. Also as you say it will I am sure need a jolly good service. Thanks for the advice.

Funnily enough I am in exactly the same situation.. a sussex based 1989 XJRS with 66k, has had rear subframe rebuild apparently so especially interested in front subframe rebuilds, needs new good fit wheels - want 18-19 inch with performance tyres (do XJR6 wheels work, other suggestions)? - and maybe brake, steering and exhaust performance upgrades... would welcome any ideas

When I had a XJRS I got in touch with www.kwejaguar.co.uk/

they were very helpful. This was the quote I got from them for a general handling improvement kit (though I think some of the priices are a little steep):

"We could supply you with a kit of parts, and assuming you want to achieve an even better handling car, I would suggest the content as follows:

1. Set of bushes and mounts for front and rear, including steering rack: £528

2. Adjustable dampers (6): £423

3. HBE Anti roll bar (front) kit: £270

4. Road Springs (6) XJRS spec: £276

5. Set of 4, 5 or 10 spoke alloy wheels, 17inch x 8.5: £958

6. Set of 4, Falken ZE512 225 x 50 x 17 tyres, fitted, balanced: £348

7. MOMO 14inch 'Fighter' wood & leather steering wheel plus Jaguar boss: £276

8. Reconditioned XJRS steering rack: £268

You may also want to consider improving the brakes, partly by ensuring all the pistons are working (not always the case...) by having reconditioned callipers, and partly by improving pedal feel and fade by having grooved discs and steel braided flexible brake pipes. This kit would come to: £613"

Hope this helps,

Bob.

can do all of that. Made the fastest standard XJS-6 in the UK and years of experience in motorsport.

Can also do manual gearbox conversion, and exhaust design work a total speciality

How much extra you really looking for and what's the budget?

by the way this ended in tears - had to scrap the thing after being ripped off - my fault for buying from ebay from a seemingly good chap, jag enthusiast and so on, but horrifyingly bad rust and strange welding underneath the veneer. Beware, even when you think you've seen it all you can get burnt. Still want a good XJRS though.
