the S was simply a run out model with pretty much every extra thrown in plus ltd edition bits like maple/elm? (very light)wood veneer, softer leather, piped carpet mats, special sills/badging and colours etc...

As Matt says, run out model with the bits mentioned (elm wood), new alloys, Perseus etc.

Different badging too. Nice chequered flag jobs etc.

Yes, rather attractive I thought. That's what I would go for if I was looking for a nice XKR of the last type.

I was sold an advertised4.2S by main dealer. Once I bought car I realised that it was in fact a 2004 car not registered until 2005 and not an S as advertised. The S also has bluetooth phone different door sills etc. Anyway I pointed out the fact to the Main dealer and was treated in a most offhand manner. The car was ex jaguar management car and to anyone in the business was quite obviously not an S . I felt cheated by dealer as I specifically wanted an S so eventually I gave car back and had refund. I then purchased a pre reg S from nother main dealer which came with recaro seats as well. It cost a bit more but well worth the extra. The seats in the standard car are not the same as S and the Recaro are so much better than either.
Basically I just wanted an S as the last model available of what I think is going to be a modern classic which I intend keeping for a long time

All you have to do to tell the difference is look at the front badge & the tread plates. They have chequered bits on them.

ETA: And get the dealer to print off a warranty spec sheet from the DDO back end system. This will show the car as having an 'S-Pack' if it is infact a true S model.

The reason I got annoyed with main dealer is that I paid for 2005 MY 4.2 S when I returned it they altered description on web and reduced price by £3000 from price it was originally advertised for. This means to me that there is a value difference between cars and that is what annoyed me plus the attitude of the dealer especially the sales manager
