I've agreed to help my girlfriend's dad sell his XKR and although I understand I can get a basic valuation from Parkers etc., I wondered if the extras the car has will push up the price?

The car is a 2001 XKR with 52k on the clock and (from what I can see) virtually every extra: full heated and electric leather interior with walnut trim, 20" Detroit alloys with P zeros all round, colour satnav, phone (with handsfree from the wheel), 6 disc CD, cruise etc. It also has a full main dealer history.

I think I should be looking at around £18k but does anyone know any better.

Cheers in advance for the help.

Get in it. Drive around for an hour.
Grin.

Now drive to a Jaguar main dealer and ask them what it's worth for cash (private/trade) and as a P/X.
Drive away and find a motorway. As you hit the top of the slip road floor the throttle.
Grin a lot.

Now drive to an everyday second-hand car dealer.
Ask the same questions.

To both sets of answers add 10% for haggling skill and you have your value give or take a bit.
From France, call the ex-girlfriend's Dad and say "I'm sorry I can never return your excellent car".

Most XKRs have all those. Sat Nav still commands a slight price premium as do the 20" wheels. Looking through E-bay and Autotrader 2001 XKR Coupes are for Sale between £18750 and £23K. Most important is also where you live and how you advertise it. Cars in Scotland, Essex and South wales seem to get lower prices. Autotrader costs £ and with the low demand for XKs you may need it to be advertised for more than a few weeks. Try Pistonheads ads and www.XKEC.co.uk, try £20K with good description and pictures and see what interest you get. Unless you are in hurry you can always drop the price a little either for an offer or on the ad later.

If I could afford it I would! Just had to get a new tyre for it and at over £250 a corner I haven't got a hope in hell of affording the running costs unless I live in it - and yes, before you ask I did consider that option but the g/f said no...

My local Jag specialist (non-Stratstone) does commission sales, I've sold a couple that way and find it quick and efficient. You pay the commission of course but you do get automatic interest in the motor from day one. Worth checking it out with your local.

I reckon it's worth about 20k as long as it's a decent colour, clean inside and has a few miles left on the tyres.
