Any thing I need to know or check when I go buy it? I would like to know your experiences with your car and how it has treated you so far.

THANKS

Well I very much like mine. Nothing really to recommend regarding ordering it really, other than I've grown to quite like the seemingly pointless active headlights; if only for the mesmorising little dance they do when you first turn the car on in the dark.

I got them to throw in a glass block with a 3D laser-bubbled model of the car, which is quite a cool paper weight in the office!

I did not order one, I am just simply buying one at the dealer, but I really want to know about the antenna. Does it raise regardless of whether you use the radio?

Hi Alex, I thought you had your XKR ordered, are you sure you'll be able to just go into a dealer and buy one? as far as I know there is a bit of a waiting list for them at the moment...

John.

I am very undecided right now after not going after my preferred choice which was the DB9 so I do not want any commitments. I recently looked at an M6,911,Caymana S,and even an XK. There is a dealer here in West Palm Beach Fl. that if I am lucky, I can get a slate XKR coupe that is coming in late march. If not they have plenty of XK's.Probably it is going to the person who is willing to pay the most for it though ,because it is a coupe and that color is popular.I probably sealed it's fate talking about it here.

I knew that the waiting lists only applied to people who wanted special packages or upgrades. I just want whatever they have over there. The same dealer has about 6 or 7 vantages, you know the car that has a "10 month waiting list". By the way if you are wondering I did not get a DB9 because I am 18 and it is not a good college car.

I ordered two slate XKRs, neither arrived as the dealer sold them out from under me to higher bidders even though I was on the paperwork. Get it in writing and get the VIN on the contract or you have nothing.
Bought an 911s instead and much happier that it worked out that way. Much happier.

Oh yeah, fair to say that I know both cars.... here is a pic from this morning with them sitting side by side in the driveway. Granted the Jag is an XK but I've driven the R as well. I drove them back to back today and MAN what a difference. The jag felt sooooo heaaaavvvvvvvyyyyyy after the 911.

There are plenty of discussions on the ariel recently. The answer is no the ariel doesnt rise if you dont have the audio switched on. It is however raised if the audio is on even if you're listening to CD not radio. There is likely to be an update to the ariel at some point, and likely to be retrofittable.

Only buy the preorder car if it is the right spec. If the dealer is trying to offload a poor spec car which wont fair well in residuals, then it might be worth waiting for a better car that you specified. Having said that, as you are only 18, I doubt that you are spending your own "hard earned" cash, and hence you're probably not that bothered about the $.

I find your college comment highly amusing. I dont know what college/university is like in USA, but here in Blighty the very few students that actually have cars manage to get something like an Austin Metro (i appreciate you probably dont know what this car is!). How can anything you are possibly considering be more "suitable" for college than the other. Certainly cant see why a DB9 is not suitable but others are?

And also liable for a good kicking if he drove to Uni in a car like a DB9 in the UK.

Hey Alex, why not get a sensible college car, VW Golf and look forward to the ownership of prestige cars later on or by the time you are 25 you won't have anything left to live for!

Tell me this man is taking the piss or colleges in the States are different from UK. Is this what's meant by the Ivy League?

A DB9 is in a whole other league than the XKR. Do not get me wrong, my parents just do not buy me cars when I want. when I got my license I got an escalade due to a loving mother who wanted me in a secure car. I have to tell you that SUV's are not my kind of car. Since I got my license I have always wanted a 2-door coupe. I can only choose ONE. The car that I get, I plan to keep for the rest of my life.

If you want to understand some of the comments and have a bit of a laugh, try ringing some UK insurance companies and explaining that you are looking to take a car off to Uni with you and that you're 18 and would like a quote. Then after they've finished laughing, try telling the insurance company what car you'd like insured.

I assume this is not a problem in the US.

I admire your intentions and totally agree you should buy something fantastic and keep it for ever. If you are in a position to get your hands on a DB9 then do it for goodness sake. But I wouldn't take it to college until you are totally confident your classmates are going to treat it with the same respect you will. Why not buy an older Jag to be going on with.?

I think the XKR is a good everyday car. I plan to drive it a lot despite the dreaded "stone chips". It is not going to be a garage princess.I am going to drive it from home to college every day. It is a 30 mile round trip. I am praying that I get relatively faultless car.

Good God...
Imagine being at Uni (or college) with an XK or a DB9 - What a Snore... You can only get one girl in it !
(and her poodle in the back).

What you want mate is ten year old Land Rover with bench seats, beach tyres and a 12 volt beer fridge.
(and perhaps a little more imagination)...
