Guys I need your help and opinions. I am having trouble choosing from a slate XK or a Slate XKR(both coupes). I know most of you would tell me to go with the XKR, but those stupid hood (bonnet) fixtures look awfully tacky. I dont take HP that seriously ,but I do like the sound of the XKR. Have any of you heard the XK and XKR rev? Is there that big of a diffrence bettween them? Is the R really worth it?

You can get the R sound (and ever better) easily by buying a sports exhaust for the XK. Daft spending the extra for an R if you only want a better burble.

I just thought the XKR looked kind of tacky and the XK looked classy like the old ones. My only problem is I really like the quad pipes and the R in the headrest ,but I am leaning towards the XK right now. I will be driving this car everyday from college and back.

As before, an aftermarket zorst will provide your quad pipes. You've got to be kidding about the R logo though. Its nice but irrelevant.

Alex, I would say get the XKR, it is a better drive than the XK, it's a more focused sports car but still has all the comfort of the XK. I picked up my XKR yesterday and I'm loving every second. The R is definately a more cost effective buy at only a small premium over the XK and it will be worth more when you come to sell(if you ever do).

If you get the XKR you won't regret it, I had the XK for a few days and my only real criticism was that it felt underpowered, 300 bhp just didn't seem enough for it, but if you've not driven both you need to do that before making a final decision, it's a lot of money so you don't want to buy the wrong car.

John, how do they sound? Compare the sound between the two. I was going for the R but those hood fixtures, I cant get them out of my head. Can those be removed.

You could just have Jag put the XK bonnet on the XKR. Dont know how much it would cost. The panel itself is the same, just with a couple of holes in it. I actually like them on mine, its one of the main defining features of the R and its best feature in my eyes.

I also like the bonnet vents I think the plain bonnet on the XK is a bit weak, the whole front end of the XK infact is a bit weak the R definately looks better, the sound difference is hard to describe but I'll give it a go, the XKR has a throatier, more aggresive sound, but again, get to the dealer and have a listen to them both.

I think one of the pleasures of the XKR, like it was of the E-Types, is to sit in traffic, and I assume that you understand that concept over on the west coast, and watch the heat haze rise out of the louvres on the bonnet. I assume that is still the case with the new one, and I BELIEVE that the supercharged engine benefits from plenty of cooling.

Look, son, there really isn't much debate here, and I am not sure having read your other post that you are not just taking the piss out of us, but if you can afford an XKR you buy one. End of story.

They are both great cars, but our opinion it’s the XKR hands down

Yes you can put a sports exhaust on the XK, and it will sound great, but the R’s are more fun, they are very tuneable with huge untapped power. With the XK on the other hand you are really limited to what you can do with it, yes you can remap the ecu, but it will never give the driving experience of the XKR, which just feels better and much more responsive, and once you have de restricted it and added a sports exhaust, you will have a true super car – which will ultimately be highly sort after at time of resale.

Alex, since you like the design of the older model, and seem to place more importance on the car's aesthetics (such as the hood intakes and sound) over performance enhancements, then a 2005-2006 XK8 or XKR, would probably be a perfect choice.

You (or your parents) would save a ton of money (approximately $30,000 for a 2 year old certified low-mileage model still under factory warranty). And you could use a small portion of the money saved to put any modifications (such as sports exhausts) on the car.

Totally agree, if you are buying a 'keeper' by the run out 'Victory Edition' XKR, far more age defying than the new one and a classic to be? But, if you open that debate, why not look for a last edition Aston Martin DB7GT?

To spend $100,000 doallars just for a burble seems a bit excessive. Me, I'd buy an old classic sixties US muscle car, but it wood look totally shite on Guilford high street!

I believe these are suffering a massive cost hyper inflation at the moment.
Could be a good investment.

L.A. I have a few questions; I am about 6ft. tall can I fit comfortably in the XK? I have not sat in one yet. Could these kits be put on at the dealer to avoid negating the warranty? Or does a kit kill your warranty.

Alex, if you are gonna get an XK not 'R, make it a convertible. Better, yet, go and drive one you may not like it and all this a talk a waste of time.

Yes. By miles! I'm 5'11 and I feel tiny. We're not talking ferrari here, this is a Jag.

No problem, I'm 6'2" and have no problem in either the Coupe or Cabriolet of the new XK. Fit the old model Coupe no problem but the cabrio is a bit of a squeeze.
