I have just bought my first Jaguar, a 05 plate X-type 2.0D XS, after selling my TVR Cerbera and am looking for options regarding the sound system.

I have the standard factory fit single slot CD system, but want to add either a CD Changer or iPOD connection but not sure which option would be the easiest, from both a fitment and cost point of view.

My main questions are:

Is the necessary wiring already fitted for a CD Changer, and if so can any after-market changer be fitted?

From searching through past posts, it seems if you fit a changer then you have to 'inform' the car that you have fitted one, I have found the link to notes on how to do this for a car with touch screen Sat Nav, but mine is the standard auto climate system. Does anyone have a link to the notes for this version on how to do this?

Does the standard single slot CD player read MP3/WMA format discs?

Do aftermarket car audio dealers have the knowledge to install either the changer / iPOD option or does it need to be done by a Jaguar dealer?

Many thanks in advance.

Jaguar dealer accessories have an IPod adaptor kit. Not cheap but allows most of the IPod functionality to be controlled by the head unit, whilst the IPod is stored away from prying eyes in the centre Armrest glovebox. Nice.

Yes, it's pre-wired for a CD changer in the boot, I think your only option maybe Alpine though.
Since your car doesn't have navigation you may also need to purchase a replacement passenger side trunk trim if you don't already have the trim with the access hatch in it. The only way that I'm aware of configuring a new CD changer to the audio system is with WDS/IDS Jaguar diagnostics.

Hi,

I believe a genuine Jag cd changer is required, due to the X-Types using fibre optics. Any independent specialist with the 'autologic' diagnostics can program the system so that it recognises your new cd changer, takes five minutes so will be cheaper than a dealer.

The Jag CD changer is an Alpine unit for 2005 IIRC.

Yes, the single slot CD player accepts and reads and plays MP3 format CD's.

Thanks for all your responses guys. thumbup

Think I will go for the iPod adapter route as this looks a neat bit of kit, and from what I have heard seems to work well with the steering wheels controls etc. Approx £300 fitted from a main dealer I have been led to believe - will phone for a price later.

Good to know that it will read MP3 CDs in the single slot though - will burn a few albums onto a single disc tonight to keep me going in the meantime though.

Cheers

Yup got an iPod adapter on the S-Type, very neat fits in the centre console & also
has 2 x phono input & a USB key, so mine has a 1Gb USB plugged in & you use the cdc
button on the stereo to actuate it. Expensive but cheaper than a CD Changer which I'd never use.
