Am I insane? 1990 XJR 4.0
Discussion
Just looking at an XJR - low miles, great interior (Jaguar knows how to do interiors), low miles and cheap as chips.....please someone convince me not to do this.....Will I need to drill my own oil well to feed the beast? Will the gearbox fall out? Are these pretty well made old cars? Will it look pretty but have tinworm throughout? Oh so many reasons not to, but it looks soooo nice
Honest opinions welcome - chopping in a perfectly good BMW E36 318 in pursuit of bhps.....

Get it checked out, good ones are bullet proof, smooth, fast, and very reliable and with a few tweaks huge BHP can be achieved.
But a rough one can be a money pit, watch for under body corrosion, shocks leaking or knocking, timing chain noise, oil leaks, wheel bearings and engine management faults, FSH is a must.
If your local to us we will be happy to give her a once over for you
Good luck.

Nooooooo!
You were all meant to say "lunatic - walk away now and keep your nice safe BMW".....
Seriously though, thanks for input - I think my heart is happy with the responses.
She looks like a nice one - will let you know what happens.
Thanks for the offer Paramount - might drop her in for a once-over + mini service to get a reality check on what bills may be on the horizon.
Cheers!

Evidently I am in fact insane
Thanks for the input chaps, I have taken the plunge and worked out a deal with the dealer folk.....my new wheels attached.
Cheap as chips (2.5K) with FSH and 44000 on the clock!
In lovely nick (some bodywork being sorted out - some bad stonechip repairs being resprayed):

Its the 4.0 - I think I saw a Daimler "double six" somewhere on my trawl through the interweb - is this the one you are looking for?
Bus specifically the 6.0L XJ40 or X300 models, specced with the seperate rear seats and in a similar condition to yours. They're out there, it's just that nobody wants to get rid.I knew I'd seen a few....just if yer still looking....
